The Account Director will be the senior point of contact for the day-to-day management of the business and the ability to sell new ideas and solutions to existing/new business opportunities
Responsibilities:
- At Humour Me we look at account directors like independent business unit heads. Imagine you’re the CEO for our own mini-agency of sorts, and you’re fully responsible for the PnL of your unit.
- At an account director level you will be directly responsible for a minimum of 3 business that could even go up to 10 always-on brands. Making your clients win basis your marketing efforts should be your primary priority at Humour Me.
- It is important to understand that we see account directors as content marketing experts first. Being able to manage business operations is table stakes and a given. You represent the voice of the chief marketer, brand lead, head of digital from the client’s side within our four walls. You’re the brain behind the output we produce in terms of content or communication. You’re the key person to direct the copy, art and production teams to ensure your creative delivers and the brand KRAs are met. Simply put, for us you’re akin to the final decision maker. Whether a business succeeds or fails will be in your hands.
- As an account director you will be tasked with responsibility of winning and retaining new business alongside the BD team. Creating yearly forecasts and ensuring you and your team’s OKR all level up to a common quantifiable objective will be a crucial part of your job.
- One of your primary responsibilities at Humour Me will be to build a team of account managers and executives and develop our next generation of talent. At least 30% of your monthly time needs to be spent in building and training your talent. These trainings need to take the form of video lessons (which you will record) that will be added to our knowledge management system/company wiki to make learning for new members sustainable and scalable.
- You need to be the primary voice of the agency for the set of brands that you handle. For this to happen, you need to be viewed as the ultimate expert from our side, to be able to earn the trust of the marketers you work with. This means you know the brand’s we work with as well as their internal marketing teams. From social listening, competitor mapping, qualitative customer research, to finally being up to date with the latest trends in your client’s categories, you need to be on top everything. You should able to predict the factors that are most likely to impact your client’s business even before their marketing teams know it.
- You will be responsible to increase the output of each department in the agency. Predicting capacity utilisation and driving operational competencies becomes a crucial part of your role. Therefore, you need to be a project management expert. The devil is truly in the details. Using the best project management practices and tools should be second nature to you. Ensuring the systems and processes to deliver excellent work run smoothly, with the best efficiencies, at the lowest possible costs will be your KR to own.
- You need to be constantly working to make your yourself redundant. This means a bulk of your energy needs to be spent in transferring knowledge and building a second line of managers who are better than you, so that you can free up your time.
- Writing your team’s KRs and reporting quarterly on their success to senior management will be your responsibility. From driving appraisals, reviews, grievance management to your team’s satisfaction scores will be a major part of your role.
- Finally, this is not a delegate upwards kind of role. We are not looking to baby sit a person at this level. You will be the final line of defense on your businesses. You need to do everything you can to learn, grow, pivot, experiment, and develop leadership level accountability. Being on top of your problems and finding the solutions to put out crucial fires will define how we view your success at year end. Failure to act on potential problems is more of a red flag than not acting and potentially failing. Swift decision making and driving outcomes will always trump effort in our eyes. Learn, fail fast and quickly move towards success, should be at the heart of how you operate.
