The Role

As Head of AI Discovery & SEO, you will define and execute JoVE’s strategy for discoverability across both traditional search engines and AI-powered discovery platforms. This role blends deep technical SEO expertise with forward-looking strategies in Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Large Model Optimization (LMO) to ensure JoVE remains the global leader in research and educational content visibility.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the long-term technical roadmap for AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and LMO (Large Model Optimization).
• Act as JoVE’s internal thought leader on AI-powered discovery, advising teams on opportunities, and emerging trends.
• Define and report on KPIs that connect SEO and AI discoverability efforts to business outcomes such as organic traffic, trials, subscriptions, engagement, and LLM-generated visibility.
• Design and run growth experiments tied to trial conversion, subscription adoption, and retention, leveraging SEO and discovery strategies to drive measurable revenue impact.
• Partner with Engineering to build and maintain high-performance front-end applications optimized for SEO, Core Web Vitals, accessibility, and structured metadata.
• Translate discovery strategies into scalable solutions, including rendering logic, metadata frameworks, routing structures, and platform enhancements.
• Build and maintain structured data systems (e.G., Schema.Org, JSON-LD) to improve visibility across search and AI discovery surfaces.
• Define and implement rendering strategies (SSR, SSG, ISR) using frameworks like Next.Js, Astro, or equivalent—prioritizing crawlability, indexation, and speed.
• Develop tooling and dashboards to monitor SEO health, crawl/indexing issues, and LLM inclusion performance.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree
• 10+ years of experience in digital content platforms, focusing on SEO, content discovery, site performance, or platform strategy (media, publishing, or subscription-driven environments preferred).
• Deep knowledge of SEO, AEO (Answer Engine Optimization), and GEO (Geographic/Local Optimization) for evergreen and real-time content.
• Strong expertise in technical SEO, including structured data, sitemaps, crawl/indexation behavior, schema markup, rendering strategies (CSR, SSR, SSG), and CMS workflows.
• Proficiency with analytics and SEO tools (Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs, SEMrush, Chartbeat, Looker, Botify, etc.) to inform decision-making.
• Proven success influencing editorial or content strategy using audience insights, search trends, and platform algorithm updates.
• Hands-on experience shaping and executing content discovery strategies in AI-driven ecosystems like Search Generative Experience (SGE) and emerging LLM-powered platforms.
• Skilled at driving organic growth tied to trials, subscriptions, and engagement metrics, balancing growth goals with editorial/educational integrity.
• Proven track record of leading cross-functional collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to improve discovery and subscription outcomes.
• Results driven, ability to work independently and in a fast paced environment.
