Description

Position: Principal, Business Development - Digital Lending

At Amazon Pay, we aim to be Earth’s most customer-centric payments service, offering trusted, frictionless, and rewarding payment solutions on and off Amazon. Our mission is to revolutionize digital lending in India, creating and scaling a marketplace of lenders and sellers to provide the widest range of affordable financing options for customers' online and offline needs.

This role is for Principal Business Development, for Amazon Pay Later and Personal loans programs. The role will be responsible for managing strategic partnerships and PnL for these programs including new partner selection, existing partner scaleup, identifying opportunities to scale revenues, optimize costs and drive higher profitability.

India's Credit Landscape:

India is a credit-starved nation with less than 5% of its population having access to credit cards and other formal sources of credit for their consumption needs. Despite this limited coverage, credit plays a pivotal role in driving a substantial share of consumption on Amazon. The Digital Lending team within Amazon Pay is on a mission to bridge this credit gap and facilitate seamless credit for everyone at the lowest cost, empowering more Indians to fulfill their aspirational consumption needs.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Market Opportunity and Strategy:
  • Define market opportunities, develop business strategies, and create a Go-to-Market plan for digital lending programs with senior leadership approval.
  1. Partnership Management:
  • Negotiate with banks and partners to enhance Interest Rate of Return (IRR), reduce payment costs, and expand customer coverage to increase credit access.

  • Oversee and grow relationships with existing lending partners while onboarding new partners.

  • Finalize commercial terms, contracts, and establish governance mechanisms across partnerships.

  1. PnL Ownership:
  • Take charge of the overall digital lending Profit and Loss (PnL), driving scale and profitability.

  • Lead commercial negotiations, including IRR, subvention, fees, and incentives, to scale programs and generate standalone profits.

  1. Customer Adoption and Awareness:
  • Drive customer awareness, adoption, and retention for all digital lending programs.

  • Design and execute campaigns in collaboration with category and partner teams to boost sales.

  • Proven experience in business development, strategic partnerships, and digital lending.

  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of successful partnership management.

  • Excellent business acumen, strategic vision, and leadership skills.

  • Self-starter with a passion for driving financial inclusion and customer-centric solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience

  • 7+ years of business development, partnership management, or sourcing new business experience

  • 7+ years of professional or military experience

  • Experience writing technical articles, speaking at technology conferences, and contributing to open source

  • Experience developing and executing on GTM strategies that are large in scope

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing, deploying and managing AI products at scale

  • Experience interfacing with customers (Enterprise, SMB, and Startups) and ability to convert customer requirements to high level architecture solutions to build on
