Assistant Layout Designer- Test Prep

Job Title: Assistant Layout Designer – Test Prep


Desired experience: 3-5 years


Cengage India is looking for a layout designer (desktop operator/DTP operator/typesetter) who uses specialist typesetting software to ensure that the book text and book covers are well-designed. They apply their typesetting and creative skills through the DTP software to combine text and illustrations, presenting them in a form suitable for printing. The ideal candidate will ensure our materials are professionally formatted and ready for seamless printing.


Responsibilities:

• Typesetting of STEM content (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology)

• Designing book covers on Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop

• Validating and archiving typeset content backup received from third-party DTP vendors

• Liaising with the Product Development team for typesetting and cover-designing jobs

• Liaising with the Marketing team for designing marketing collaterals


Requirements:

• Have a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant work experience

• Good communication skills

• Sharp eye and attentive to details

• Strong sense of design and color

• Creative & confident DTP operator preferably from a textbook publishing/printing firm

• Excellent knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator

• Thorough knowledge of typing equations in Math Type software

• Professional knowledge of Corel Draw software for cover designing and illustration

• Hands-on experience with PDF corrections on Adobe Acrobat Professional

• Hands-on experience in typesetting & designing of inside text pages, and cover designs for STEM textbook publishing.

• Knowledge of publishing regarding the specification of page size, binding, cutting area (Trim and Bleeds), and processing formats for color printing

• Layout sensitivity & knowledge of fonts and their embedding in text
