The Strategy, Partnerships & Communications vertical at PATH is a shared service supporting other verticals (Family Health, Infectious Diseases, Vaccines, Primary Health Care and Health Systems Strengthening, and Digital Health). Key teams under the vertical include:

S trategy & Partnerships : The Strategy & Partnerships team leads strategy, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and business initiatives in collaboration with the program verticals. To identify and partner with donors & other non-profits, the team undertakes landscaping, identifies fundraising opportunities, conducts donor outreach, leads business development and proposal development, develops fundraising collaterals, and tracks fundraising performance. The team engages with all critical stakeholders to effectively position the organization for maximum impact. The team also develops and implements crucial initiatives for PATH’s programs to improve outcomes.

Communications : The Communications team develops and leads organizational strategic communications to key external audiences – donors, partners, governments, and communities - in collaboration with program teams, including but not limited to content creation, social media engagement, designing collaterals, and leading external events like conventions & consultations, seminars, webinars, etc.

The South Asia Hub is seeking a Director – Strategy, Partnerships & Communications who will envision and execute strategic organizational decisions, partnerships, and communications to external audiences, and position the organization as a public health leader in South Asia. The position will report to the Director – South Asia, and will build and lead a team to provide advice and support to projects and functions across the organization.

Responsibilities:

General leadership, management, and oversight:

Provide vision, overall leadership, and oversight to the unit in the South Asia region to improve PATH’s impact and ensure quality project delivery. Uphold the standards of PATH to lead a high performing team, and ensure strict compliance to donor and PATH policies, regulations, and internal controls. Hire, onboard, and retain top talent for the vertical; build resources for the future at PATH. Lead teams supporting projects in diverse low-resource settings with multi- dimensional teams and stakeholders. Partner with PATH’s project leads, governments, and donors to enhance project delivery.

Strategy :

Contribute to and anchor PATH’s strategy development and operational planning exercises. Closely work with program divisions to generate and action ideas for continued growth and sustained impact. Conceptualize, develop, and lead PATH’s priorities and approaches for the vertical in South Asia. Benchmark globally emerging vertical trends. Lead landscape analysis for new focus areas to expand PATH’s footprint. Ensure the vertical’s strategies and methodologies are integrated across the organization to maximize public health impact. Monitor and anticipate the evolving needs of the organization and key projects in the region, and position PATH to respond to those needs. Effectively communicate the vertical’s strategies and new directions to the Leadership Team and throughout the organization. Devise and implement partnerships strategy, framework, and approaches, to develop competitive and respectful partnerships and alliances for existing programs and emerging areas. Scope PATH’s donor engagement and positioning needs at the organizational-level, project-level, and for upcoming opportunities. Identify and anchor new opportunities (with traditional and non-traditional donors) to position PATH and expand the existing donor database. Lead dialogue/partnership with donors/funders, non-profit organizations, academic institutions, consulting organizations, and others for potential partnerships Undertake strong secondary research to identify materials contributing to the development of concept notes and proposals. Lead proposal development process and support program teams in coordination with PATH’s internal and external stakeholders. Lead and support meetings with potential donors/funders, leveraging background research on meeting participants and organization focus areas. Coordinate and collaborate with other cross-cutting teams at PATH, including Communications, Business Performance and Knowledge Management teams. Forge new donor relations, maintain strong relations with the donor pool over time, creating a strong donor fulfilment strategy with reports, presentations, PR, and social media approaches (in coordination with the Communications team) Devise and implement engagement strategy, framework, and approaches for governments, donors, and other stakeholders. Drive PATH’s positioning as the partner of choice for governments, donors, and other stakeholders Lead government, donor, and other stakeholder relations, including external meetings supported by PATH’s technical team as required. Represent PATH with external audience, serving as a spokesperson for PATH to donors, partners, governments, and communities on PATH’s work. Represent PATH and build and maintain productive relationships with governments, donors, and other partners for both organizational as well as program activities. Assist project leaders of other verticals with stakeholder engagement as required. Participate in global and regional panels, conferences and other events ensuring that PATH is represented with key stakeholders in public health conversations locally and globally. Continuously scope the external landscape for emerging areas as well as business and strategic advisory needs from Director – South Asia, Program Leaders, and Project Leaders. Setup and lead proactive strategic business initiatives at the organizational level to unlock emerging program areas for PATH. Lead and deploy a team of strategy consultants at the project level to provide analytical and strategic advisory on fast-paced high-priority project segments. Lead the communications strategy for South Asia and align the same with the PATH’s global strategy and adapt to local needs. Lead the Guide and support PATH’s communications team to deliver strategic and impactful communications for positioning PATH and informing stakeholders on PATH South Asia’s programmatic progress and impact.

Required Experience and qualifications

Advanced degree and/or training in Management, Business Administration, Public Health, Health Systems, Statistics, Economics, or other relevant fields. An MBA from a top-tier global business school is strongly recommended. 10+ years’ relevant experience in a similar organization or a top-tier management consulting organization or an international development consulting organization in progressively responsible leadership roles. Comprehensive understanding of South Asia’s development sector landscape, legal and regulatory environment, and fundraising and communication practices. Strong leadership experience in strategic consulting and partnership development. Track record of influencing organizational strategic direction, planning and operations. Proven ability of stakeholder engagement, strategy, program design, operations, and business development experience in the public health ecosystem in the South Asia Hub region (in one or more countries). Available to travel nationally and internationally up to 40 percent.

Demonstrated ability to work with people with divergent points of view and to respectfully navigate differences. Demonstrated ability to engage with multiple stakeholders, including governments and donors. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute business strategies, achieving goals through market focus, innovative approaches, and entrepreneurial spirit while bearing in mind calculated risks. Demonstrated ability to develop new and unique ways to improve finances of the organization and to create new opportunities. Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to persuade and influence others. (Fluency in English is essential. Any additional regional language would be desirable.)
