Position SummaryTheRegistered Nurse provides direct patient care. The Registered Nursecollaborates with patients family/significant others peersphysicians and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcareteam in the delivery of healthcare services to patients. TheRegistered Nurse assesses the patient s needs plans care implementsand evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance withthe hospital and nursing philosophy policies/procedures andstandards. He or she demonstrates leadership skills and commitmentto professional accountability andgrowthEssential Functions andResponsibilities Includes the Following:1.Understands and adheres to our Performance Standards Policies andBehaviors.2. Utilizes the nursing process tomeet the age specific needs of the patient in all aspects of care:biophysical psychosocial education safety/ environment anddischarge planning3. Utilizes appropriatesteps in the decision making process to include recognition andpriority setting related to patient care and unitbased issues.Addresses issues with appropriate actions4.Collaborates and communicates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team5. Integrates patient rights andnursing ethics into work practice6. Adheresto infection control standards to reduce the risk of nosocomialinfections to patient and staff.7. Adheresto the tenets of the Joint Commission National Patient SafetyGoals8. Delegates activities to ancillarystaff as it relates to the State Nurse PracticeAct9. Adheres to the ANA Code of NursingEthics & Scope and Standards of NursingPractice10. Supports promotes and practiceswithin our Professional Nursing PracticeModel11. Sustains and advances the Magnetmodel12. Participates in the PerformanceImprovement initiatives13. Completescompetency requirements14. Attends mandatoryinservices15. Attends staff meetings asrequired/requested16. Utilizes costcontainment practices17. Assumes ChargeNurse responsibility18. Performs otherrelated duties as assignedEducation& Experience Requirements1. Graduatefrom an accredited school of nursing with current New Yorkregistration2. Bachelor in Nursing (BSN)required for all external RNs hired on or after January 1st2018.3. All RNs hired on or after January1st 2016 but before January 1st 2018 must have a minimum of a BSNor show evidence of enrollment and completion of BSN by January 1st2020.4. All RNs hired before January 1st2016 must have BSN by January 1st 2022.5.Knowledge of current nursing medical and health trends andpractices in rendering of patient care.6.One year of acute care nursing experience preferred for areas otherthan medical surgical or stepdown7. BLScertification (through American Heart Association) isrequired.8. As of January 1st 2017 ACLScertification (through American Heart Association) is required forall RNs except for NICU and OR RNs. Current nurses will have 12months to receive this certification (1/1/18). Current nurses onMother/Baby will have until 1/1/19 to receive this certification.All newly hired inexperienced nurses must receive thiscertification within 12 months. All newly hired experienced nursesmust receive this certification within 6months.9. PALS certification (throughAmerican Heart Association) is required for all RNs working in thePACU 5I Pediatrics Emergency Department Armonk Urgent Care andAmbulatory Surgery. All newly hired inexperienced nurses mustreceive this certification within 12 months. All newly hiredexperienced nurses must receive this certification within 6months.10. NRP certification is required forall RNs working in the MotherBaby unit Labor & Delivery andNICU. All newly hired nurses to the NICU L&D and theMotherBaby unit must receive this certification within 6months.11. Successful completion ofDepartment and Unit OrientationProgram
