Purpose of the job

To lead and contribute at overall R&D-Lab level on “technical software development” related aspects.

To focus on exploring, evaluating, setting-up and assist with continuously evolving software development technologies /tools / standards needed for R&D-Lab/ team; for the entire team to stay relevant, be efficient and achieve high quality.

Key Responsibilities

• On top of the Senior Development Engineer’s responsibilities, (Tech) Lead to take greater ownership and work alongside Software Development /R&D Lab Manager and Solution Architects on technical development activities.
• At R&D lab/ team level:
• Regularly reviewing development workflow process/ standards/ guidelines/ conventions and looking out for gaps and scope for improvements.
• To come up with suggestions/ resolutions/ options to address the gaps or any betterment.
• Collaborate with SMEs and peers (R&D team engineers) in continuously evolving the software development standards, processes, promoting good software development practices, knowledge imparting and learning activities in the team.
• Maintain, monitor and update development workflow process/guidelines/documents on regular basis.
• Ensure latest development process, standards and conventions are clearly informed and followed by all development engineers in the team. Perform reviews to ensure design, security and quality guidelines are followed.
• Provide guidance via reviews on DDD, Unit test and coding standards.
• To provide technical guidance, encourage and lead knowledge sharing, collaboration in the team for development engineers to be efficient and geared to deliver with quality. Proactively initiate development improvement discussions and activities in the team.

• Work and collaborate with R&D Lab Manager, Solution Architects of Projects and Product (as required) to contribute towards evaluation of new technologies, tools, and continuous evolution /enhancement of existing tools /systems /applications.
• To focus on low level design, provide design insights to SAs and engineers.
• Assist SAs/ PS team on effort estimations (when required)
• Take on challenging /complex developments’(design, coding and delivery) in Project/Product.
• To be self-driven and dedicated in understanding the domain and functional knowledge provided during the initial training period. Thereafter, constantly put effort in improving/gaining in-depth knowledge of Realtime-XLS Product and good understanding of all client projects.
• Work on any technology that is considered in the team, front footing the analysis, best practices, collaborating, sharing and guiding the development engineers.
• To be well versed and agile to work on any XLS Project or Product development initiatives.
• To have full insights of XLS Product lifecycle, tech-stack, tools, methodology and future evolutions planned.
• Gain expertise in existing Product tech-stack, components, and assist/learn/master any new technologies (as required).
• Keep gaining knowledge of various XLS projects’ development lifecycle, types of clients and the various aspects of client/external system integrations, operations, environments and XLS system hosting.
• To have high-level knowledge of all projects and in-depth knowledge of 1 or 2 major XLS projects.
• Ensure proper documentation and knowledge sharing are upkept in development team.
• Continuously learn, explore and work on constantly evolving areas like Security, Automation/ DevSecOps (CI, CD), Quality. Taking ownership/mastering at least in one area.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

• 8 years minimum, of hands-on relevant development experience.
• Good working experience in agile/scrum and other development methodologies.
• Strong software development concepts, extensive experience in Java EE technologies and expertise in Java is essential.
• Experience in Java frameworks and their implementation – Struts, Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Axis2 and etc.
• Basic Experience with Oracle database and good knowledge on SQL,
• Strong experience in web front-end technologies like HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, Ajax, JSP, JavaScript, JavaScript libraries (jQuery etc), .
• Good knowledge on JavaScript and related technologies is essential and some working experience on NodeJS is preferred.
• Strong knowledge on REST/JSON, SOAP web services.
• Good knowledge of Microservices, Cloud concepts, AWS and other cloud platforms
• Good working experience with GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, WebStorm, Postman, SoapUI, Nginx, various code-quality-tools/software (for static code checkers, secure code checkers, automated unit tests, code coverage)
• Good knowledge on web application security.
• Experience in designing, profiling, and tuning high-performance, multi-threaded applications.
• Good knowledge on software security, secure development of applications and PCI DSS.
• Knowledge of security standards (encryption, authentication, authorization) related to web and portals.
• Good knowledge on design patterns, secure coding, coding standards and principles.
• Knowledge of DevOps/CICD, Docker, Angular
• Knowledge of basic Unix environment is required.
• Quick grasping and appetite for learning and gaining broad knowledge on architecture, infrastructure, operations, software methodologies/ systems, code, quality, designing (responsive design, single page Apps, modular, scalable etc., ), security and technologies evolving around XLS/CG ecosystem.
• Good communication (verbal and written), documentation (for creating Technical-Notes, software design documents) and presentation skills are essential.

Preferred/Good to have knowledge on the below:

• Older tech-stack - frameworks/ versions - CVS, Dojo, Struts, JSPs, Jpub, Axis
• C programming
• Mobile development technologies and Android
• Qlikview/Qliksense, Kafka, Docker
• Knowledge in PLSQL, MySQL and NoSQL
• Domain knowledge of banking/payment systems desirable
• PCI – PA DSS requirements, OWASP, secure coding practices/principles.

Skills and Competencies:

Robust, secure and high-performance applications’ development in Java EE, keen interest on technologies, confident, agile, independent, ability to lead junior developers and good communicator. To have a flair for technologies.
