Position Summary

Reporting Manager: Senior Director, Impact & Operations

Team Size: 3-5 people 

Note: This role can be based out of any of the Teach For India cities mentioned above

As Director, the head of the Strategy and Impact team will manage a team of 3-4 members. In order to achieve the vision outlined above, the Director navigates several internal relationships and simultaneously also partners with external consultants from top consulting firms, researchers and professors from universities and other industry specialists to conduct need-based research, benchmarking or co-executing on projects linked to impact and organisational development. Each member typically works on 2-3 projects at any given time - a big consulting project with a team, monitoring & evaluation pieces for the organisation along with on-going projects spanning key organisational priorities and are often cross-vertical in nature. Finally, as a Vertical Head, they will also be part of the 20-member Leadership Team at Teach For India and will play a key role as an ambassador of the Teach For India brand and an advocate for our work and for educational equity in our country.

Team Overview

The Strategy and Impact team is the monitoring and evaluation unit for the organisation, an internal consulting arm at Teach For India, a key thought partner for the Senior Leadership Team, and an advisor and implementation partner for the 20 Vertical Heads who lead various teams and constitute the ‘Leadership Team’. It is a team that strives to bring unique and unbiased perspectives into organisational performance by working on a diverse set of projects across multiple functions. 

Key responsibilities of the Strategy and Impact Team include supporting the CEO, as well as the Senior Leadership team, on long term strategy as well as organisational decision-making in the short-term. The team serves as a learning partner for Vertical Heads, which involves collaborating with internal teams on a project-basis on topics ranging from key-lever analysis, building team capacity, implementing performance improvement initiatives, change management, or more. Jointly with the Chief of Staff to the CEO, the team conducts periodic structured reviews to enable the Teach For India Board to have a strong, on-going understanding of where we are as an organization and what needs to be done in order to sustain and improve our progress.

Responsibilities

Design the long-term vision for the Strategy and Impact Team, as well as the roadmap to advance the team towards it in the short-term Structure and project manage various processes to surface key organisational and industry trends and advise the CEO and Senior Leadership team on long-term strategy  Anchor key long-term projects including a 2-year, longitudinal research study on student outcomes in Fellowship classrooms, route to our North Star (building 50,000 leaders) through building leaders beyond the Fellowship, identifying new sites for expansion of the Fellowship etc. Design and steer Teach For India’s annual organisational strategic planning process, which includes supporting each vertical to develop a robust annual strategy and operational plan, and collaborating with the Finance and HR verticals for the annual budgeting and manpower projections Support various Teach For India teams on short-term projects to build internal capacity across areas which could range from strategic planning, operational strategy and M&E Deliver insightful reporting to the Teach For India Board through robust data and monitoring as well as nuanced conversations and perspectives from teams, to inform our organisational progress, enable better governance, and align on the path ahead Coordinate key internal and external communication initiatives with the Chief of Staff to the CEO, which includes quarterly board meetings, and annual and quarterly reporting Train team members on advanced consultative skills such as rigorous project management, problem definition, structuring and creating solution frameworks, strong analytical skills, data analysis and visualisation, and slide making/reporting  Work with external-facing teams such as fundraising, communications, and recruitment to understand the kind of organisational reporting that would amplify Teach For India’s impact and the requirement to different types of audiences Keep a tab on execution and ‘quality’ of how operations are panning out through periodic structured and unstructured conversations with other team leads - thereby informing the quality of insight for monitoring and for organisational planning Support Teach For India Alumni and other external organizations (e.g. - donors, other nonprofits) on need basis (subject to bandwidth availability) with matters related to impact, strategy and monitoring

Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

6-10 years of professional experience as a management consultant or as a corporate strategy/operations improvement professional in a complex organisational setting Exposure to short and medium strategic planning exercises - either as a lead or as a key member of the driving team Experience with having worked with CXOs / senior management stakeholders Experience with stakeholder management in complex settings (e.g. negotiations, client servicing, consulting, fundraising, etc.) Structured problem-solving at a level of proficiency required (as a project manager or a level higher) in top consulting firms Experience of having built and managed a small but high functioning team(s) to outcomes
