ob Overview:

The Skating Coach at the secondary level is responsible for the development, training, and performance of the school’s skating team(s). This role includes planning and conducting training sessions, developing strategies, and guiding students in competitions. The coach will foster an environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Training and Development:

    • Plan and conduct regular training sessions focusing on skill development, technique improvement, and physical conditioning.
    • Create tailored training programs that meet the needs and skill levels of individual skaters and the team as a whole.
    • Monitor and evaluate the progress of athletes, providing feedback and making necessary adjustments to training plans.

  2. Competition Preparation:

    • Develop competition strategies and prepare the team for events and competitions.
    • Accompany and supervise the team during competitions, providing guidance and support.
    • Analyze performance during competitions and provide constructive feedback.

  3. Team Management:

    • Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that encourages cooperation and team spirit.
    • Ensure that all team members adhere to school policies and regulations.
    • Manage team logistics, including scheduling practices, booking facilities, and coordinating travel arrangements for competitions.

  4. Safety and Risk Management:

    • Ensure all training sessions and activities are conducted in a safe manner.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to prevent injuries.
    • Provide first aid and respond to emergencies when necessary.

  5. Communication and Coordination:

    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, school administration, and other stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with other coaches and staff members to coordinate training schedules and facility use.
    • Participate in meetings and professional development opportunities.

  6. Administrative Duties:

    • Maintain accurate records of training sessions, attendance, and athlete progress.
    • Handle administrative tasks related to the team, such as managing budgets and ordering equipment.
    • Prepare reports on team performance and activities as required.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Certification: Relevant coaching certifications (e.g., USA Skating Coach Certification).
  • Experience: Previous experience coaching skating at the secondary school level or higher.
  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to motivate and inspire students. Knowledge of modern coaching techniques and strategies.
Working Conditions:
  • This position requires working evenings and weekends, especially during competition seasons.
  • The coach will spend a significant amount of time in skating rinks and other sports facilities.
  • Travel is required for competitions and events.
