Main responsibilities
The main purpose of the role is to be part of a team that provides quality, high impact and informative news reports and analysis across a range of BBC News outlets, for UK and International audiences via online, radio, TV and interactive platforms.
As a senior producer you will work primarily with correspondents, other producers and technical staff, providing specialist and general coverage of news, events and trends across South Asia.
You will also work closely with all teams within BBC News India, as well as wider teams in London, to share information, plans and deployment details.
Are you the right candidate?
You must have strong TV, Online, Digital and Radio production skills and be able to work alongside correspondents on the scripting, structuring and editing process.
News is a high-pressured environment, and you should be able to demonstrate an ability to work within that environment and to tight deadlines. You will be able to work as part of a team and show experience of de-escalating tense situations.
You will have significant experience as a Senior Journalist/Producer at international level, with a track record of producing original and high impact journalism. Experience of investigations advantageous.
This role is responsible for leading on digital development within the team – so you will have a clear understanding of World News Content’s digital newsgathering strategy in the region, with an understanding of what works across different digital platforms/social media, and ideas about how we can build and serve new audiences. In addition:
Able to demonstrate experience of making high level decision on legally and editorially difficult stories. Have worked extensively abroad, preferably with experience in hostile environments, producing crafted material for digital audiences as well as television and radio audiences. Have successfully pitched, developed and planned your own original story ideas for both domestic and global audiences, brimming with ideas and treatments on hard to tell stories. Sharp journalistic instinct, knowing which stories to pursue for both domestic and international audiences. Proven track record of creative storytelling, with concrete examples of breaking the mould on stories/formats that created impact across platforms. Able to demonstrate a detailed grasp of developments in South Asia and be knowledgeable of the politics of India. Familiar with negotiating exclusive access, information or material and have a good network of contacts, both internally and externally. This role will involve extensive travel so a willingness to work flexibly and travel at short notice in what is often a hostile environment is essential.
