Farnell, an Avnet company, is a global high-service distributor of technology products, services and solutions for electronic system design, maintenance and repair.

Job Summary:

This role collects, maintains and loads trade compliance data to enable the successful global importing and exporting of Farnell’s millions of distributed products.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical data research to determine the correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Country of Origin (COO), Export Control Classification Number (ECCN), and other trade compliance data as required
  • Identify and interpret customs rulings and explanatory notes in order to determine accurate HTS classifications
  • Collect trade compliance data from suppliers
  • Review and compare Farnell product descriptions and other technical attributes to ensure alignment with our trade compliance data
  • Review and work discrepancy reports to ensure consistent data between Farnell and Farnell’s sister companies
  • Maintain metadata to support the automation of trade compliance data
  • Archive and maintain trade compliance supporting evidence
  • Maintain trade compliance data in our systems of record
  • Administer internal audit processes to ensure accurate data collection and classifications; and support external audits as necessary.
  • Keep informed of emerging or new trade compliance developments
  • Provide impact assessment of changing legislative requirements
  • Develop and maintain work instructions for trade compliance processes
  • Provide training to other Farnell employees on trade compliance processes
  • Support one-off trade compliance requests from internal and external customers
  • Achieve deadline, data fill, and data accuracy (quality) objectives
  • Maintain and provide monthly reporting of accomplished work
  • Help develop Farnell’s trade compliance processes and framework

  • Enthusiasm to deliver quality work
  • Build strong and effective working relationships across the organization and externally
  • Apply sound judgment when collecting and determining trade compliance data, and ensure that all decisions and data updates are based upon objective evidence
  • Accept responsibility for all completed work
  • Experience working with teams that cross international boundaries
  • Must be able to work non-standard hours, globally, as required (e.g. UK/US Shift)
  • Must be able to analyze and interpret legislations, and relate those legislations to the Farnell business

Work Experience:

  • Typically less than 2 years with bachelor's or equivalent.
  • Background or experience with electronic components is desired

Education and Certification(s):

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Logistics, Business, or a related field
