Job Purpose - To implement, monitor, review, and control process parameters to achieve design objectives, product yield, and quality targets. Ensures safe and reliable plant operations while enhancing operational excellence across the process unit.
ResponsibilitiesQuality Management System
- Coordinate daily maintenance, technical, and operational strategies.
- Optimize throughput and yield as per plan.
- Ensure safe and reliable unit operation during normal and emergency conditions.
- Prepare turnaround job lists.
Systems, Policies & Procedures
- Implement and improve unit-specific systems and SOPs.
- Communicate procedures effectively to all concerned employees.
- Develop new systems and procedures as needed.
Management
- Chair ABC meetings in absence of Area Manager to facilitate in problem solving and decision making.
- Monitor implementation of systems and policies
- Achieve daily operational targets.
- Maintain safe and smooth plant operation by determining & specifying operating parameters.
- Review plant quality audit reports, analyze deviation, conduct root cause analysis and drive corrective plan.
- Provide feedback on plant operations (Shutdown, emergency situations, deviation in product quality, equipment problems, constraints in maintaining programmed production rate, status on maintenance activities, etc.) on regular basis.
- Daily follow up and monitoring of implemented systems, policies and procedures.
- To optimize product yield and throughput as decided in daily planning meeting.
- To achieve the daily operation target as per plant.
- To ensure the application of all modern tools especially computer based to achieve optimum plant performance, including LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System), PIS (Plant Information System), IP21, Aspen, SAP etc.
Team Management
- Guide team members on roles and responsibilities.
- Identify training needs and implement job rotation.
- Promote a positive culture through recognition and encouragement.
- Release employees for training in consultation with Area Manager.
- Communicate management policies, targets and philosophies to production staff.
- KPI review of subordinates & providing supervision for competency enhancement.
- To ensure that team members are clear about their roles and guide them.
- To ensure the proper growth opportunity for each employee through identification and implementation of training needs, introduce job rotation within the department.
- Supervise shift teams including shift Incharge, panel officers, field operators.
MIS & Data Analysis
- Direct team to meet targets and timelines.
- Prepare daily yield, chemical consumption, downtime, and energy analysis reports.
- Collaborate with process leads for ABC energy performance reviews.
- Assist in planning and managing operational budgets.
- Monitor inventory of chemicals, spares, and consumables.
- Support planning for shutdowns, turnarounds, and commissioning activities.
OHSMS – Health, Safety & Welfare
- Approve/reject work permits.
- Implement emergency response procedures.
- Ensure compliance with HSEF protocols and operational excellence standards.
- Review start-up & shutdown procedures, standard operating procedures (SOP) and standing instructions and update them according to the best practices and the operational experiences.
- To ensure that all the plant operational activities, start up and shutdowns are carried out safely as per licenser/internal developed SOP.
- Maintain strong HSE culture n operations group.
- Plan and ensure testing of emergency shutdown system and keep records.
- To ensure proper implementation of SOP, Safety policy and work permit system in operating unit and corrective action taken on timely manner.
- To provide technical support for implementation of Health, Safety and Environment management system.
- To participate in HAZOP, root cause analysis, incident investigation, PSSR and risk assessment
Environment Management System
- Initiate/stop effluent disposal per safety norms.
- Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and SOPs.
- Maintain awareness of environmental consequences and legal compliance
- Energy Management System (ISO 50001:2018)
- Monitor EnPIs, baselines, and energy objectives.
- Contribute to energy action plans and performance improvements.
- Ensure awareness of RIMS & EnMS documentation and compliance.
Qualifications
Educational Qualifications & Certifications
B.E. / Diploma / B.Sc. / M.Sc. or equivalent
Diploma in Business Finance,Certificate in Computer Applications
Relevant (Functional/Level) & Total Years of Experience
15 years total experience as Shift Manager and Assistant Plant Manager in critical refinery units
Functional Skills
- Operational management of Refinery.
- Advanced Process Control project execution and software development
- HAZOP studies, Six Sigma (Green Belt), TPM, ISO 9000/14000, ISRS, ENMS
