Role & responsibilities

1. Resident doctor is bound to maintain round the clock prompt availability to the patient in wards.

2. While managing the patient SR will follow defined emergency procedure, he will assess the need of the consultant and will call the respective consultant.

3. Once the patient is admitted the summary of his problems, investigation required and treatment is written in the file.

4. They will verify whether the instructions given to the admitted patient have been carried out properly.

5. SR will accompany consultants during their rounds and follow their instructions accordingly.

6. SR will take two independent round with JR and staff nurse and assess the patient, which is to be written in the patient progress note.

7. All notes of clinical assessment should have date, time and full signature clearly written.

8. At the time of round, all aspects of patients welfare and attendants problems are to be looked into by SR including proper medication, nursing care, sanitation and hygiene. If any lapse is found it should be reported at the earliest to the concerned authority.

9. SR should check each aspect of the file i.e. I/O chart, TPR, BP chart, treatment chart, investigation chart, nursing care chart, specific chart like JR/MO notes. If any lapse found to be reported to consultant / MS immediately.

10. To ensure that patient is getting the brands of medicine prescribed.

11. To discuss the progress of patient in each consultant round.

12. To ensure that all lab forms and blood requisition form is properly filled for the patient who require blood transfusion.

13. To find out from the patient / relatives regarding history of drug allergy. If any patient is allergic to the drugs, the names of these drugs are to be boldly written in cover page of file of the patient.

14. All drugs requiring sensitivity test should be tested in his/her presence before clearing these drugs for administration.

15. All SR are suppose to wear white coat in the hospital premises.

16. All SR will participate in clinical meetings / conferences etc. organised by hospital.

17. All SR should participate in the health camp as and when organised by the hospital.

18. SR will write in file regarding call given to consultants with specific time and date.

19. SR will prepare the discharge summary of patient after its declaration by the consultant.

20. The SR will have to assist the Surgeons in OT when ever required.
