Fabrication In-Charge

- Translate engineering drawings / fabrication drawings into shop floor execution plans
- Plan/schedule fabrication jobs, allocate resources (manpower, materials, machines)
- Ensure fabrication tasks (cutting, bending, welding, machining, assembly) are done on time, with accuracy and within tolerance
- Monitor workflow on the shop floor; ensure continuity and minimize downtime
- Lead a team of fabricators, welders, fitters, and helpers; provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring
- Review and optimize welding procedures, jigs & fixtures, and welding consumables selection
- Understand and enforce quality / dimensional tolerances, surface finish requirements
- Develop / improve fabrication techniques and best practices
- Coordinate with Quality / Inspection teams to ensure fabricated parts meet specifications, tolerances, non-destructive testing (NDT), weld inspection, etc
- Maintain and enforce safety standards, welding codes, and fabrication norms (eg
- compliance to ISO, OHS, etc)
- Implement preventive measures to reduce rework, defects, scrap, and wastage
- Monitor consumption of raw materials (plates, pipes, sheets, profiles, welding consumables) and report variances
- Work towards continuous improvement targets (cycle time reduction, productivity, cost saving)
- Identify bottlenecks, propose layout changes, workflow improvements
- Use lean manufacturing concepts (5S, Kaizen, etc) to drive operational excellence
- Provide daily / weekly / monthly reports on fabrication progress, manpower utilization, job status, deviations
Candidate Profile
- Hands on experience in welding processes (MIG, TIG, SMAW, Submerged Arc, etc.), heat treatment, bending, cutting, forming.
- Ability to read & interpret engineering and fabrication drawings (CAD, assembly drawings).
- Knowledge of metal fabrication (plates, profiles, pipes, structural steel).
- Familiarity with welding codes and standards (e.g. ASME, AWS, IS)
- Proficiency in using measurement tools (verniers, micrometers, gauges)
- Basic understanding of machining and assembly operations.
- Good problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and troubleshooting skills.
