Job Title:Safety Officer - Building Systems (MEP/ELV)
Location: Bangalore
Job Type: Full-Time, Entry-Level
Annual CTC: 1,80,000 to 2,50,000
Role Overview
As a Junior Safety Officer, you will be the primary on-site support for ensuring the health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance of all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) system installation and maintenance activities. You will assist in implementing safety protocols, conducting inspections, and promoting a strong safety culture among all site personnel and subcontractors. This role is ideal for a proactive individual with a strong commitment to safety and a foundational knowledge of construction and building systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Inspections & Hazard Identification: Conduct regular, routine site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance with safety regulations specific to MEP/ELV work (e.g., electrical hazards, working at heights, chemical handling, proper use of machinery).
- Safety Monitoring & Enforcement: Monitor personnel to ensure strict adherence to occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures, including the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all workers and subcontractors. Stop any unsafe acts or processes immediately when necessary.
- Risk Assessment Assistance: Assist in preparing and updating Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Risk Assessments for specific MEP and ELV activities. Collaborate with project teams to integrate safety considerations into daily work plans.
- Training and Awareness: Organize and conduct daily "toolbox talks," safety inductions for new employees, and regular awareness sessions on general and job-specific safety topics (e.g., fire safety, first aid procedures, electrical safety).
- Incident Response & Investigation: In the event of an incident, accident, or near-miss, assist in the initial investigation to determine the root causes. Document findings, prepare detailed reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation and records of safety inspections, incident reports, training sessions, and permits-to-work. Prepare and submit regular HSE performance reports to management.
- Emergency Preparedness: Support the development and maintenance of emergency response plans and coordinate regular safety drills (e.g., fire, evacuation).
- Compliance Support: Help ensure all on-site activities comply with relevant local, state, and national safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, local Factories Acts).
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or Occupational Health & Safety/Environmental Management.
- Certifications: Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA 30-Hour) is highly desirable.
- Knowledge: Foundational knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and best practices. Familiarity with MEP/ELV systems and their associated safety requirements (e.g., working with electrical panels, installing fire alarms, CCTV systems) is a plus.
- Skills:
o Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
o Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
o Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced construction environment.
o Proficiency in MS Office for reporting and documentation.
