Job Description Senior ServiceNow Architect

Position Overview

The Senior ServiceNow Architect is responsible for leading the design, architecture, and implementation of ServiceNow solutions across the enterprise. This role ensures that the platform aligns with business goals, adheres to best practices, and supports scalability, performance, and continuous improvement. The Senior Architect collaborates closely with business stakeholders, IT leadership, developers, and product owners to translate business needs into robust technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Architecture & Solution Design

• Design and own the end-to-end ServiceNow architecture across multiple modules (ITSM, ITOM, HRSD, CSM, SecOps, GRC, etc.).
• Develop scalable, secure, and sustainable architectural blueprints and technical designs.
• Ensure alignment of solutions with enterprise architecture standards and guidelines.
• Evaluate new ServiceNow products, features, and releases; recommend adoption strategies.

2. Platform Governance & Best Practices

• Establish and enforce ServiceNow development, coding, and configuration best practices.
• Define standards for catalog design, workflow development, UI policies, scripts, and integrations.
• Enable platform governance, including CMDB data models, ACL/security rules, and SDLC processes.

3. Development Oversight & Technical Leadership

• Provide technical leadership to ServiceNow developers, admins, and configuration teams.
• Review code, configurations, and workflows for quality and performance.
• Mentor teams on advanced platform capabilities, scripting, integrations, and architecture patterns.

4. Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with business owners to define functional and non-functional requirements.
• Present architectural recommendations and roadmaps to senior leadership.
• Lead workshops, technical discussions, and design review sessions.

5. Integrations & Automation

• Architect integrations between ServiceNow and external systems using REST, SOAP, MID Server, IntegrationHub, etc.
• Drive automation and orchestration initiatives across ITSM/ITOM and enterprise workflows.
• Ensure integration security, reliability, and maintainability.

6. Platform Optimization

• Conduct platform health checks, performance tuning, and continuous optimization.
• Identify improvement opportunities and implement enhancements that increase platform maturity.
• Oversee upgrades and ensure compatibility across customizations and integrations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

• 5–10+ years of ServiceNow experience, including at least 4–5 years in an architect role.
• Deep expertise in major ServiceNow modules (ITSM, ITOM, HRSD, CSM, SecOps, GRC, App Engine).
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript, Glide API, Flow Designer, IntegrationHub, MID Server, and CMDB.
• Experience with API integrations (REST/SOAP), SSO/SAML, OAuth, and enterprise architecture.
• Proven experience designing complex workflows, data models, and custom applications.

Certifications (Preferred)

• ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) — required
• ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (1 or more) — ITSM/ITOM/HRSD/etc.
• ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)
• ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (CTA) — strong plus

• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex architectural initiatives.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
