Job OverviewThe release automation engineer must be able to automate and manage the software release process, building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, scripting deployments, and ensuring software deployments are efficient and reliable. Key responsibilities include collaborating with Application teams, product engineering and operations teams, troubleshooting release issues, and optimizing processes to deliver high-quality software releases consistently and efficiently. This is a senior engineer role (SRE Senior Engineer) requiring experience in the responsibilities listed
Responsibilities:
- Mine and analyze large sets of data related to releases and deployment failures.
- Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in release management area using data-driven insights and applying trend analysis.
- Leverage data to develop strategic roadmaps for improving SRE practices and automation, with a focus on reduction of deployment failures.
- Define and deploy key SRE metrics (SLIs, SLOs, error budgets) for deployment process and support processes.
- Institute feedback models working alongside with App teams, product engineering teams and operations teams to enable continuous process improvement and enhancing deployment process.
- Conduct research and publish artifacts to drive enhancements in deployment automation area with SRE focus.
- Review / Author operational procedures related to CI/CD best practices incorporating service level concepts (SLI, SLO, SLA, Error Budget).
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnose and resolve problems in CI/CD pipelines using tools especially Jenkins, RLM, Harness and other home-grown deployment orchestration and change management tools.
- Distill complex technical information into executive-level narratives to communicate Deployment Automation and CI/CD performance and initiatives.
- Ability to design and develop configuration scripts using Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks.
- Establish foundational and execution work streams for process improvement and automation initiatives within the SRE domain, focusing on cloud-native applications, Docker builds, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and Load Balancing Architecture.
- Partner with Domain, Technical architecture, and SRE teams to drive efficiency and reliability.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting to provide visibility into release management performance using observability stacks (e.g., Grafana, ELK).
- Participate in on-call rotation and incident response activities as needed, managing production environments.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of DevOps experience, with at least 2 years as a Deployment Automation/Release Management Engineer, preferably with a focus on SRE or related fields.
- Deep understanding of core SRE principles and practices including Observability, Performance Optimization, toil reduction, error budgets, SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, and blameless post-mortems.
- Knowledge or experience with tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack for infrastructure as code (IaC) and configuration management is a plus. Familiarity with container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker Swarm) is a plus.
- Strong command-line proficiency and experience with Linux/Unix system administration preferred.
- Networking Fundamentals: Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and network security concepts is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent verbal and written communication and ability to collaborate with development, operations and business teams required.
- An initiative-taking mindset, ability to quickly learn modern technologies and adapting to evolving environments is necessary.
