Position: Mortgage Underwriter 27722
Position Summary
The Underwriter will review, condition, and underwrite mortgage loans in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines. The role requires examining loan documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance to minimize risk.

Job Functions And Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze mortgage loan applications to ensure eligibility, accuracy, and compliance with internal and external guidelines.
  • Assess loan data, reports, and inspections to ensure collateral meets investor and company requirements.
  • Make independent credit decisions on loan acceptance and risk according to HUD, investor, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide final underwriting approval for Conventional, FHA, VA, Reverse, and Correspondent loans.
  • Complete all required paperwork/forms accurately and within set timelines.
  • Sign off conditions promptly as per management-defined timelines.
  • Collaborate with processors, advisors, and management to resolve escalations and identify process improvements.
  • Manage loan files using mortgage loan origination systems (e.g., Encompass).
  • Effectively communicate underwriting decisions and maintain strong cross-team collaboration.
  • Maintain high levels of customer service while ensuring adherence to compliance and audit requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent of 15 years of education).
  • Minimum 1 year of mortgage underwriting experience.

  • Strong knowledge of:

  • US Mortgage Residential Underwriting.

  • 4 C's of Underwriting (Credit, Capacity, Collateral, Capital).
  • Financial & non-financial documentation review.
  • Income calculation for salaried and self-employed borrowers.
  • Asset, liability, credit, and appraisal verification.
  • Risk & compliance requirements, including FNMA & FHLMC standards.
  • Conventional, FHA, VA, Reverse mortgage, and Correspondent lending practices.

Work Schedule / Travel

  • Flexible to work in any shift, including night shifts, based on business needs.
  • Willing to travel to office for training and work-related requirements.

Must-Haves

  • Hands-on experience in US mortgage residential underwriting.
  • Strong knowledge of 4 C's of underwriting.
  • Proficiency in income calculations (salaried & self-employed).
  • Immediate joiners or candidates available to start in August or September.
