The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for driving business growth and expanding market share for the Solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) company. The role involves identifying and securing new business opportunities, fostering relationships with key clients, managing strategic partnerships, and expanding the company's presence in the solar energy market. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the solar industry, project lifecycle, and energy solutions, with a proven ability to build long-term relationships with clients, stakeholders, and decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Market Expansion & Strategy:

  • Identify New Business Opportunities: Research, analyze, and explore new market segments and regions for business expansion, including residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar projects.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement business strategies to expand the company's footprint in the renewable energy market, particularly focusing on solar EPC projects.
  • Partnership Development: Build relationships with government bodies, energy providers, utilities, contractors, and other key industry players to create new opportunities.
  • Market Intelligence: Conduct market research to monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities in the solar energy sector.

2. Client Relationship Management:

  • Key Account Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, including developers, corporates, and governmental agencies. Act as the primary point of contact for major clients and partners.
  • Consultative Selling: Understand client needs and offer tailored solar EPC solutions, positioning the company as a leader in delivering cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions.
  • Customer Retention: Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction, and drive repeat business and referrals by delivering value and addressing client concerns.

3. Business Negotiation & Deal Closure:

  • Lead Contract Negotiations: Oversee and negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing for large-scale solar projects, ensuring profitability and risk mitigation for the company.
  • Proposal Development: Coordinate with the technical team to create customized proposals, project timelines, and budgets that meet client needs and align with company capabilities.
  • Bid Management: Lead the preparation and submission of tenders and RFPs (Requests for Proposals) for solar projects, ensuring alignment with client specifications and project requirements.

4. Sales and Revenue Generation:

  • Sales Target Achievement: Drive revenue growth by setting clear sales targets and focusing on achieving or exceeding them through strategic sales efforts.
  • Lead Generation: Generate and qualify new leads, leveraging personal networks, referrals, and online platforms to create a strong pipeline of solar projects.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the sales, engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction.

5. Industry Representation & Networking:

  • Industry Representation: Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, conferences, and other networking opportunities to enhance brand visibility and attract potential business.
  • Thought Leadership: Stay informed on the latest developments in the solar and renewable energy sector and represent the company as an industry leader in sustainability and solar technologies.

6. Reporting & Performance Metrics:

  • Sales Reporting: Regularly update management on sales performance, project progress, and market trends. Use CRM tools to track leads, opportunities, and progress against sales targets.
  • Market Feedback: Provide feedback to the marketing and product development teams based on market insights, customer feedback, and competitor activities.

Required Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field. A Master's degree or additional certifications in renewable energy or business management is a plus.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or account management in the solar energy or renewable energy sector, ideally within an EPC environment.
  • Proven track record of handling large-scale solar projects, including commercial, industrial, or government sectors.

Industry Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of the solar EPC market, including technical, financial, and regulatory aspects.
  • Familiarity with solar technologies, energy policies, incentives, and financing models available for solar projects in India.

Skills:

  • Sales & Negotiation: Strong sales skills with the ability to negotiate complex contracts and close high-value deals.
  • Client Relationship Management: Ability to build and sustain long-term relationships with high-value clients and partners.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically, set goals, and implement initiatives that align with the company's growth objectives.
  • Presentation Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical solutions to a non-technical audience.
  • Project Management: Familiarity with project management processes, including timelines, budgets, and coordination between multiple teams.
  • Software Proficiency:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, Zoho, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with large-scale EPC projects and a network of government and corporate clients.
  • Familiarity with solar design software and financial modeling tools.
  • Knowledge of solar energy incentives and policy frameworks in India.
