QA Automation Engineer Job Description

Summary

The QA Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated test scripts and frameworks to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of our software applications. This role is a key part of the Agile team, bridging the gap between development and quality assurance to enable rapid, high-quality deployments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Development: Design, implement, and maintain scalable and robust automated test scripts for functional, regression, and performance testing.
  • Framework Management: Develop and enhance the current automation framework (e.g., using Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, etc.) to improve efficiency and coverage.
  • Execution & Analysis: Execute automated test runs, analyse results, identify and report defects, and work closely with developers to ensure timely resolution.
  • CI/CD Integration: Integrate automated tests into the Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline (e.g., using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions).
  • Test Strategy: Collaborate with the QA Lead and development team to define, develop, and maintain the overall testing strategy, including test plans and test data management.
  • Manual Testing: Conduct manual functional testing when automation is not feasible or appropriate, and create detailed, clear, and comprehensive test plans and test cases.
  • Mentorship: Mentor junior QA engineers on automation best practices and tooling.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

  • Expertise with a major automation tool/framework (e.g., Selenium WebDriver, Cypress, Playwright, Apulum).
  • Strong experience with API testing using tools like Postman or REST Assured.
  • Experience working within a CI/CD environment and integrating test automation.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, primarily Git.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and database concepts for data validation.

General Skills

  • Proven experience as a QA Automation Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • [Y] years of hands-on experience in test automation framework development
