Design Engineer- Boilers

Job Title: Design Engineer Boiler & Heat Exchanger Design

Location: Hyderabad

Experience: 3-7 years

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Design Engineer with experience in Waste Heat Recovery Boilers (WHRB), sponge iron (DRI) processes, and associated heat exchanger systems. The candidate will be responsible for complete mechanical and process design activities including equipment sizing, layout preparation, and detailed engineering documentation for high-temperature process systems such as tail gas boilers, steam generation units, piping systems, and other critical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Heat Exchanger & Boiler System Design

• Design and analysis of Waste Heat Recovery Boilers (WHRB), tail gas boilers, and steam generation systems.

• Perform heat and mass balance (HMBD) calculations.

• Carry out tube thickness calculation for heat exchangers and boilers as per relevant codes (ASME/API).

• Select appropriate materials of construction for high-temperature and corrosive environments.

2. Equipment Sizing & Specification

• Pump sizing and valve selection including manual, motorized, control, safety, relief, blowdown, and sacrificing valves.

• Safety valve calculation and specification as per boiler codes.

• Fan sizing and selection for forced/induced draft systems.

• Design and selection of demister pads, soot blowers, silencers, boiler feed water pumps, and deaerators.

3. Piping & Utility Design

• Perform pipe sizing calculations for steam, water, and process gases.
• Prepare detailed pipeline list, duct schedules, riser and downcomer specifications, and utility balance.

• Develop insulation and refractory schedules based on process conditions.

4. Engineering Documentation

• Preparation of P&IDs, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, and layout drawings.

• Develop and maintain engineering documents such as:

1. Contract Data Sheets (CDS)

2. Valve & equipment specifications

3. Design basis documents

4. Datasheets for pumps, valves, demisters, silencers, etc.

5. Cross-functional Collaboration

• Interface with procurement, fabrication, and site teams for technical clarifications.

• Coordinate with vendors for sizing and selection of bought-out items.
• Support project execution with design inputs and documentation.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles.

• Hands-on experience with steam generation systems, boiler auxiliary systems, and coke calcination processes.

• Proficient in design codes such as ASME Section I / VIII, API, TEMA, and piping standards.

• Experience with engineering tools/software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, HTRI, or similar.

• Excellent documentation and communication skills.

• Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred Experience:

• Prior experience in sponge iron plants, coke oven gas systems, or process utilities is a strong advantage.

• Exposure to EPC projects and plant design workflows.
