Profile Summary

The Checker plays a key role in ensuring accuracy and compliance of structural steel detailing deliverables. This role requires the ability to read and interpret contract drawings, check 3D models, drawings, and reports prepared for fabrication. A strong understanding of
AISC, AWS, OSHA, and NISD standards
is essential. Prior experience in
structural steel and architectural/miscellaneous detailing
is mandatory.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform structural steel detail checking to ensure drawings meet engineering requirements, specifications, AISC standards, and project-specific requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and protocols, including AISC, AWS, OSHA, and NISD guidelines.
  • Provide technical assistance, guidance, and feedback to Modelers and Detailers.
  • Create and review
    RFIs
    (Requests for Information) and provide practical solutions to fabricators.
  • Prepare and review sketches, layouts, and plans as necessary.
  • Provide detailing solutions for field fixes during fabrication and erection.
  • Support drawing approval, fabrication, and erection processes to ensure quality and timely completion.
  • Communicate complex technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, project managers, fabricators, and erectors.
  • Interpret and comprehend construction drawings and specifications with accuracy.

Qualifications and Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor's/Diploma in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
    (SDS2/TEKLA experience may substitute for degree requirements)
    .
  • 1– 8 years of steel detailing experience
    using SDS2 and/or TEKLA.
  • Strong knowledge of
    AISC codes, OSHA guidelines, and related industry standards
    .
  • Proven ability to read and interpret
    structural and architectural design drawings
    .
  • Understanding of steel manufacturing, shop fabrication, and erection processes.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Working knowledge of
    welding specifications
    .
