Key ResponsibilitiesA. Diagnostic Support

  • Assist pathologists in the review and preparation of histopathology and cytology cases.

  • Support the processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of tissue specimens (if trained/required).

  • Assist in slide screening or preliminary assessments under supervision (depending on regulations).

  • Support clinical pathology workflows: hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, as required.

B. Specimen & Laboratory Workflow Management

  • Ensure proper specimen collection, labeling, documentation, and tracking.

  • Coordinate between clinical departments and pathology labs for sample transfer and reporting.

  • Monitor turnaround times and escalate delays to relevant supervisors.

C. Reporting & Documentation

  • Assist in drafting preliminary reports for consultant review.

  • Enter and verify results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).

  • Maintain logs, records, QC documentation, and case archives.

D. Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.

  • Ensure adherence to CAP/NABL/JCI or local accreditation standards.

  • Follow biosafety practices and SOPs for infection control and hazardous materials.

E. Clinical Coordination & Support

  • Communicate with clinicians regarding sample requirements and test availability.

  • Assist in tumor board preparation (case compilation, slide retrieval, data summary).

  • Provide patient or clinical staff education when required.

F. Training & Continuous Development

  • Assist in training junior staff, interns, or lab technicians.

  • Engage in continuing medical education (CMEs), audits, and departmental research projects.
