We have an urgent requirement for a Directional Driller - Motor & Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS).

About the Role

To plan, execute, and manage directional drilling operations using both positive displacement motors (PDM) and rotary steerable systems (RSS), ensuring wellbore placement meets client objectives in terms of directional plan, trajectory, and drilling performance, while maintaining safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Pre-Job Planning & Preparation

  • Review well plans, drilling programs, and offset well data.
  • Select suitable drilling tools, BHA configurations, and steering systems for the well objectives.
  • Conduct pre-job meetings with rig crew, mud engineers, and MWD/LWD teams to align operational strategy.

Operational Execution

  • Operate Motor Drilling (PDM) and Rotary Steerable Systems to achieve required well path and directional targets.
  • Monitor drilling parameters (WOB, RPM, torque, mud flow, and differential pressure) to optimize performance.
  • Interpret downhole measurements and adjust drilling techniques in real time.
  • Troubleshoot drilling dysfunctions such as stick-slip, bit wear, or hole cleaning issues.

Data Monitoring & Decision Making

  • Collaborate with MWD/LWD engineers for real-time data analysis and trajectory corrections.
  • Apply geosteering techniques where required to maintain wellbore within the reservoir target.
  • Ensure smooth transitions between motor and RSS drilling as per plan.

HSE & Compliance

  • Ensure all operations comply with company and client HSE policies.
  • Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and hazard identification activities.
  • Maintain well control readiness and follow emergency procedures.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/Degree in Engineering, Petroleum, or related field (preferred).
  • IWCF/IADC Well Control Certification (required).
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in directional drilling, including both motor and RSS operations.
  • Offshore and/or land rig experience in various drilling environments (vertical, deviated, horizontal, high-angle wells).

Physical Requirements

  • Fit to work in offshore/onshore drilling environments.
  • Ability to work extended rotations and travel to remote drilling locations.
