Position Title:

Shift In-Charge – Control & Instrumentation

Department:

Steel Melting Shop (SMS) – Instrumentation Maintenance

Location:

Hisar / As per business requirement

Reporting To:

Section Head / Department Head – Instrumentation Maintenance (SMS)

Role Purpose:

To lead and manage shift operations of Instrumentation & Control Maintenance in the Steel Melting Shop, ensuring reliability, availability, and optimal performance of control and instrumentation systems. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and coordination with production and maintenance teams to ensure uninterrupted operations, adherence to safety standards, and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Shift Operations & Leadership

  • Act as Shift In-Charge for Instrumentation & Control in SMS.

  • Lead the maintenance team during shifts and ensure smooth operations.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to minimize downtime and optimize production efficiency.

  • Instrumentation Maintenance

  • Ensure preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of SMS instrumentation systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in field instruments, PLC, and SCADA systems.

  • Maintain calibration accuracy of instruments including Pressure Tx, DP Tx, Thermocouples, Pyrometers, Flow Meters, Control Valves, and Gauges.

  • System Management

  • Work with PLC systems (ABB, Siemens, Rockwell) – logic understanding, modification, and SCADA operations.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards, TPM practices, 5S methodology, and SAP for maintenance reporting.

  • Process Knowledge Application

  • Apply knowledge of SMS processes: Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), AOD, Continuous Casters.

  • Ensure instrumentation systems support process efficiency, quality, and safety.

  • People & Safety Management

  • Guide and support technicians/associates during shifts.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain high housekeeping standards (5S).
  • Foster teamwork, motivation, and continuous learning within the team.

Required Experience:

  • 6 to 8 years of proven experience as Shift In-Charge – Instrumentation & Control in a Steel Melting Shop.

Educational Qualification:

  • 3-Year Diploma in Instrumentation / Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering.

Required Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of industrial control & instrumentation systems.
  • Hands-on experience in maintenance and calibration of field instruments (Pressure Tx, DP Tx, Flow Meters, Thermocouples, etc.).
  • Expertise in PLC & SCADA (ABB, Siemens, Rockwell).
  • Knowledge of SMS processes (EAF, AOD, Casters).
  • Familiarity with ISO, TPM, 5S, and SAP maintenance modules.
