Role & responsibilities :

Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership to the Engineering function for the EPC thermal power project.
  • Define the engineering vision, objectives, and roadmaps in alignment with project and organizational goals.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams (Mechanical, Electrical, C&I, Civil, Structural, etc.) ensuring integration of all packages.
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables in line with project schedules and milestones.

Project Engineering Management

  • Oversee development, review, and approval of engineering documents, drawings, and technical specifications across all packages (BTG, BOP, Civil, Electrical, C&I).
  • Coordinate with licensors, OEMs, consultants, and EPC partners to ensure technical soundness and design optimization.
  • Establish and monitor the Engineering Document Control System (EDMS) to track deliverables.
  • Drive Value Engineering (VE) and constructability reviews to optimize cost, quality, and schedule.

Interface & Coordination

  • Act as the single-point contact for all engineering matters during the EPC stage.
  • Ensure smooth interface management between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
  • Liaise with vendors, contractors, and regulatory authorities for approvals, permits, and compliance.
  • Facilitate regular engineering coordination meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Procurement & Technical Support

  • Provide engineering support to procurement for preparation of technical specifications, bid evaluation, and vendor finalization.
  • Review and approve vendor designs, engineering drawings, and data sheets.
  • Support contract negotiations by providing engineering insights and ensuring alignment with project needs.

Reporting & Governance

  • Report engineering progress, risks, and mitigation plans to the Project Director and Management.
  • Ensure strict adherence to project budgets and timelines from an engineering standpoint.
  • Prepare periodic MIS (Management Information System) reports on engineering status.

Drive risk management in engineering deliverables and ensure proactive resolution.

Preferred candidate profile :

  • Proficient in engineering software and tools relevant to thermal power project design and management.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and environmental standards applicable to thermal power projects.
  • Extensive experience in managing EPC thermal power projects, preferably with capacities exceeding 500 MW.
  • Professional certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or engineering (e.g., Chartered Engineer).
  • Experience with international thermal power projects or exposure to global engineering practices.

Familiarity with digital transformation initiatives in engineering and project management
