We're now building a refreshed culinary program that reflects our ethos: creative, conscious, and community-driven.
Role Summary:
We are looking for an innovative, passionate, and experienced Head of Culinary to lead our kitchen and shape a dynamic menu that aligns with our creative vision. This role will oversee menu development, kitchen operations, team management, supplier relationships, and ensure exceptional quality and consistency.
Key Responsibilities:Menu & Culinary Development
- Conceptualize and develop seasonal and event-based menus aligned with Humming Tree's brand and audience.
- Innovate with fusion, contemporary, and culturally rich dishes.
- Lead recipe development, tastings, and quality standardization.
Kitchen Operations
- Manage daily kitchen operations ensuring hygiene, efficiency, and consistency.
- Implement and enforce SOPs for food prep, storage, and sanitation.
- Work closely with FOH team to ensure seamless service and guest satisfaction.
Team Leadership
- Hire, train, and lead a team of chefs, cooks, and kitchen staff.
- Foster a culture of creativity, discipline, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and implement skill development programs.
Inventory & Supplier Management
- Manage inventory, purchasing, and cost control measures.
- Build and maintain relationships with local and sustainable vendors.
- Ensure consistent supply chain for quality ingredients.
Financial Management
- Monitor kitchen P&L, control food costs, and minimize wastage.
- Collaborate with management on budgeting, pricing strategy, and profitability.
Collaboration & Events
- Collaborate with the events and programming team to design menus for special events, pop-ups, and residencies.
- Represent the culinary identity of Humming Tree in public and industry events.
Qualifications:
- Degree/Diploma in Culinary Arts or Hospitality (preferred but not mandatory with strong experience).
- 8+ years in professional kitchens, with at least 3 years in a Head Chef / Culinary Director role.
- Strong knowledge of modern cooking techniques, plating, and global cuisines.
- Proven experience in kitchen management, budgeting, and team leadership.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Passionate about sustainability, local produce, and community-led food practices.
