We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Financial Analyst / Data Engineer to take ownership of our internal financial reporting infrastructure. This role requires advanced Excel skills, a deep understanding of complex data structures, and the initiative to continuously improve the accuracy, usability, and reliability of our reporting ecosystem.

The ideal candidate is someone who not only loves working with numbers and datasets, but also takes pride in data integrity and thrives on making meaningful process improvements. You will serve as the architect and steward of our reporting framework, leveraging multiple sources of financial and operational truth to deliver reports that support executive-level decision-making.

Required Candidate Profile:

• Own and manage key internal financial reports across the company, including revenue tracking, margin analysis, backlog/billing forecasts, labor utilization, and client/project financials.
• Use advanced Excel techniques (pivot tables, nested formulas, data modeling, conditional logic, cross-sheet referencing, etc.) to build, enhance, and automate reporting workflows.
• Consolidate and interpret multiple datasets from internal and external sources (e.g., QuickBooks, time tracking tools, project trackers, ERP exports) to provide actionable insights.
• Maintain and improve the current reporting structure, proactively identifying areas for data normalization, user-friendliness, and reliability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, HR, Recruiting, Sales, and Operations to collect input data and ensure accuracy of assumptions.
• Validate all reports for completeness and accuracy — strive for 100% precision before delivery to leadership.
• Document assumptions, logic, and workflows used in report generation to ensure continuity and support audits or internal reviews.
• Provide ad hoc analysis and dashboards as requested by executives or departmental leads.
• Maintain version control and update cycles for key reports, ensuring data freshness and historical comparability.

Roles and responsibilities:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, Data Science, or related field.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in a Financial Analyst, Business Analyst, or Data Engineering role, ideally in a consulting or services-based company.
• Excel expertise is non-negotiable — must demonstrate fluency with advanced formulas, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and dynamic dashboards.
• Prior experience working with complex, multi-sheet Excel workbooks and large data sets.
• Strong understanding of core financial metrics, including revenue recognition, margin, utilization, and forecast vs. actuals.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for accuracy and data integrity.
• Strong ownership mentality and ability to operate with minimal oversight.
• Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, systems, and reporting methods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to BI/reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Google Looker.
• Knowledge of basic scripting or automation using Power Query, VBA, or Python a plus.
• Prior experience supporting FP&A, operations reporting, or consulting resource utilization models.
