Natural/ADABAS Developer

About The Opportunity
A role in the Enterprise IT - Legacy Mainframe & Application Modernization sector supporting mission-critical systems for banking, insurance, and large government customers. The position is an onsite engineering role based in India focused on development, support, and optimization of Natural & ADABAS applications that run high-volume transactional workloads.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain Natural (Software AG Natural) programs and ADABAS data definitions to deliver stable online and batch applications.
  • Analyze incidents and implement robust fixes—perform root-cause analysis, code changes, unit testing and release to production.
  • Optimize ADABAS access paths and Natural program performance to meet SLAs for throughput and response times.
  • Integrate Natural components with COBOL batch and online modules; author clear JCL and coordinate batch schedules.
  • Follow change-management processes (Endevor/ChangeMan) and maintain version-controlled code with peer reviews and documentation.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, QA and operations to deliver enhancements, migrations and cutovers with minimal business impact.

Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have

  • 3+ years hands-on experience developing in Software AG Natural and ADABAS on mainframe or open systems.
  • Strong ADABAS skills: database design, descriptors, ISN/ISN lists, and access path/performance tuning.
  • Good working knowledge of COBOL integration, JCL, TSO/ISPF and batch processing concepts.
  • Proven experience in production support, debugging, unit testing and adherence to release processes.

Preferred

  • Exposure to Endevor/ChangeMan, CA7 or Control-M scheduling, and mainframe monitoring tools.
  • Experience with modernization initiatives, REST/JSON wrappers for legacy, or migration planning to hybrid platforms.
