A CNC machine operator in the wood industry programs, sets up, and operates specialized machines to manufacture or repair wood parts for furniture, fixtures, and other wood products.​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC woodworking machines, such as saws, lathes, routers, planers, drills, and sanders, according to production schedules and work orders.​
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, or verbal instructions to ensure accurate machining and product quality.​
  • Monitor machinery during operation, making necessary adjustments to maintain efficient production and high-quality outputs.​
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of machines, and replace parts as needed to ensure optimal functioning.​
  • Inspect completed pieces for accuracy and conformance to specifications, conducting regular assessments and recording operational data.​
  • Adhere to strict safety guidelines and maintain a clean and safe working environment.​

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic to advanced understanding of CNC machining principles, including programming and troubleshooting (knowledge of G-code and M-code is often preferred).​
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.​
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality production.​
  • Proficiency with measuring tools like calipers and micrometers.​
  • Physical ability to handle standing, bending, lifting materials, and performing repetitive tasks in a manufacturing environment.​
