Your role and responsibilities (Mandatory)
As Senior Service Owner you own E2E technology services within SAP viz BTP/Integration suite, SAP Basis and Rise with SAP. Focuses on innovation, performance, account management, portfolio management, Service design, Demand and escalation management, stakeholders & expectation management, financial management, resource management and cross-platform technology enablement across the enterprise.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Leads the global SAP Technology & Solutions landscape with strategic ownership of SAP BTP, ABAP development, BASIS infrastructure, and SAP RISE platform, ensuring alignment with ABBs enterprise IT strategy, digital transformation objectives, and future-ready architecture.
- Defines and drives the long-term vision and roadmap for SAP technology services, translating enterprise goals into actionable initiatives that deliver measurable business value and innovation at scale.
- Engages and influences senior stakeholders, including Business Area CIOs, Global Process Owners, Enterprise Architects, and Program/Project Leadership, ensuring technology alignment with evolving business needs and strategic direction.
- Shapes and governs the service delivery framework for SAP technology areas, ensuring consistency, reusability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance across development, operations, and support activities.
- Oversees technical governance for custom development (ABAP/BTP), platform extensions, and integrations, ensuring high standards in performance, scalability, and adherence to security and data protection regulations.
- Drives architectural decisions, risk mitigation, and lifecycle strategies, including cloud migrations, upgrade planning, and infrastructure standardization for SAP RISE and hybrid environments.
- Champions innovation and continuous improvement by evaluating and adopting emerging SAP technologies such as SAP BTP services (Fiori, AI/ML, Event Mesh, Integration Suite), cloud-native tools, and automation enablers.
- Acts as a strategic liaison with SAP, hyperscalers, and implementation partners, representing ABBs technology needs, influencing product direction, and ensuring access to best practices, support, and new functionalities.
- Ensures audit readiness and regulatory compliance by enforcing secure development practices, change management controls, traceability, and aligned documentation across the SAP landscape.
- Leads collaboration with Infrastructure, Security, Testing, GRC, and Application teams, enabling seamless end-to-end service integration and robust operations for critical SAP platforms.
- Builds and mentors a high-performing, globally distributed technology team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence in SAP service delivery.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible to design, implement and maintain the framework to deliver the services in scope, on time, within budget, and in line with the customers expectations.
- Ensures hands-on involvement in operations within the service area, responsible to create effort, time, and cost estimates for demand requests (projects, solutions, deployments, and handover to operational vendor), and ensures that the service reaches its targets with the increase in performance year after year.
- Manages the business/customer/consumer expectations for the service in scope.
- Serves as the escalation point in case of a severe problem in the service and works with the service line to get the service back on track.
- Attends all regular internal and external review meetings to ensure service is properly managed.
- Determines, prioritizes, and plans the implementation of service improvements for better service management.
- Accountable for creating and managing Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Operational Level Agreements (OLA) in order to increase transparency between the service provider and the Service Owner, and to provide feedback about the services performance, availability, capacity, etc.
- Ensures work in the delivery department is compliant with corporate IS, any other applicable ABB regulations (internal and external) and guidelines, and especially ABB IS guidelines and directives that deals with IS service delivery.
- Manages multiple third-party global vendor contracts to assure high service quality and optimize the cost.
- Accountable for the Change Advisory Board (CAB), decides on the execution of changes in service(s) and application(s).
- Responsible to support all internal IS and cross-functional processes related to IS service delivery or IS service demand in the relevant service area of responsibility.
- Supports processes that foster service improvement.
- Responsible to implement the service delivery strategy and plan for assigned service(s).
- Sets the example for proactively building working relationships within the team, acts as an escalation point for staff, and ensures relationship challenges are addressed.
Qualifications for the role (Mandatory)
- 15+ years of SAP Administration & Operations, with 10 + years around of SAP Basis Administration, SAP NetWeaver, SAP HANA and other database platforms (ASE, MAXDB, DB2, MSSQL)
- Minimum 5+ years managing teams, stakeholders, and vendors in a service delivery environment
- Additionally, experience on SAP BTP , familiarity around BTP Key concepts and setting up a Global Service Around SAP BTP
- Bachelors or masters degree in any background, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certificationsin ITIL, SAP Basis, SAP HANA, or SAP BTP are highly desirable.
- Continuous learning mindset with exposure toemerging cloud technologies SAP RISE, BTP etc.,
