Senior Data Engineer Mainframe & Cloud Integration

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer with strong mainframe experience to design, develop, and optimize large-scale data processing solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in DB2, COBOL, JCL, and Batch Programming along with experience integrating data into modern cloud platforms like AWS S3 and Azure Data Factory.

You will work on high-volume, mission-critical data workflows, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability across systems. Prior airline industry experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines between mainframe systems and cloud platforms.
  • Work extensively with DB2, COBOL, JCL, and Batch Programming for high-volume data processing.
  • Implement solutions for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) to and from AWS S3 and Azure Data Factory.
  • Optimize mainframe batch processes for efficiency and scalability.
  • Ensure data quality, security, and compliance across platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business intelligence, analytics, and operational reporting needs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex data processing issues in both mainframe and cloud environments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering with strong mainframe expertise.
  • Proficiency in DB2, COBOL, JCL, and Batch Programming.
  • Experience with AWS S3 and Azure Data Factory for cloud-based data integration.
  • Proven ability to process and optimize large volumes of data efficiently.
  • Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational database concepts.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Airline industry experience is highly desirable.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of modern data lake or data warehouse architectures.
  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and version control (e.g., Git).
  • Experience with performance tuning in both mainframe and cloud environments.
