As we continue to grow, we are now looking for a
Principal Data Engineer
to join our Data Engineering team.

As a Principal Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Kwalee's core data systems — including data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes. You'll ensure data is accessible, reliable, and cost-effective, enabling teams across the business to make smarter, data-driven decisions.

This is a permanent role based in our
Bangalore studio
, where our daily in-office collaboration fuels innovation and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain data systems including pipelines, warehouses, and data lakes.
• Lead and support the development of new data-dependent applications and business intelligence dashboards.
• Contribute to the design and architecture of data-driven software projects.
• Collaborate with software engineering and product teams to build scalable, reliable data infrastructure.
• Develop pipelines that deliver high-quality data efficiently to teams and applications across Kwalee.
• Manage and optimise data warehouse performance, cost, and user security.
• Ensure the scalability and performance of Kwalee's data infrastructure as the business grows.
• Mentor and guide other engineers, promoting best practices and high technical standards.
• Perform other ad-hoc tasks as required by the line manager.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering with a strong track record in production-grade systems.
• Expertise in SQL and Python, with experience automating data pipelines using tools such as dbt and Airflow.
• Strong knowledge of data lakehouse architecture (e.g. Databricks, Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery).
• Experience with cloud services (e.g. AWS) and their configuration.
• Proven experience designing and documenting data architectures, ETL/ELT processes, and ensuring performance, security, and lineage.
• Familiarity with data engineering best practices such as CI/CD, testing, and metadata management.
• Experience in leading technical delivery and mentoring team members.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Based in our Bangalore office for 5 days per week.
