Job Summary
The Cyber Security organization at GSK is seeking a highly skilled and experienced
Principal Data Engineer
to focus on
cyber data analytics
. This role is integral to enabling data-driven insights for our metrics and data science teams, ensuring the secure and efficient handling of data within the
Microsoft Azure ecosystem
, particularly
Databricks
. The Principal Data Engineer will play a key role in designing and managing data workflows for ingestion, transformation, and preparation while collaborating with senior stakeholders and mentoring junior team members.

on ensuring high-quality, scalable, and efficient data engineering solutions to support advanced analytics and cyber security objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Data Engineering & Technical Expertise

• Develop and maintain data ingestion, transformation, and integration pipelines using PySpark, Scala, and SQL within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
• Set up, manage, and maintain Databricks Delta Lake environments for secure and efficient data storage and processing.
• Design and implement data models (ER and dimensional) for optimized data access and reporting.
• Build pipelines to integrate data from traditional sources such as flat files, SQL Server, Oracle, and Informix, as well as non-traditional sources like JSON, XML, Blob storage, and APIs.
• Leverage Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage, Blob Accounts, and Key Vaults to ensure seamless data operations and security compliance.
• Ensure best practices for code creation, migration, and deployment across multi-environment setups.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner closely with metrics and data science teams to understand data requirements and provide well-curated datasets for analytics and reporting.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues while communicating explanations and resolutions to senior business stakeholders and leadership.
• Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing insights and guidance on data engineering practices and strategies.

Mentorship & Team Development

• Provide technical mentorship to junior team members helping them develop skills in Azure data engineering and Databricks.
• Support team members in understanding and applying data engineering best practices and troubleshooting techniques.

Data Visualization & Reporting

• Integrate data pipelines with analytical tools like Power BI or Tableau to support actionable insights.
• (Preferred) Build dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Power BI or Tableau, applying advanced features like slicers, filters, hierarchies, and cross-report filtering.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10 to 13years of professional experience in IT with bachelor's or master's degree in engineering
• 10+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure ecosystem with focus on cloud data engineering, azure data factory, Storage and blob account management, key vaults etc.
• 10+ years of experience with databricks in creating data integration pipelines using PySpark, SCALA, SQL. Databricks delta lake setup, management, and maintenance.
• 10+ years of experience with building data integration pipelines from traditional sources like Flat files, databases (Sql Server, Oracle, Informix) and non-traditional sources like JSON, XML, BLOBS, APIs.
• Expertise in data design and modelling, creating ER and Dimensional models, Read-optimized designs.
• Expertise in code creation, migration, and deployment in a multi environment setup.
• 5+ years of experience integrating data with analytical tools and services like Power BI, Power BI Services, Web apps.
• 5+ years of experience building dashboards, reports, and custom visuals using leading BI tools like Power BI, Tableau.
• Experience building insightful and actionable visualizations leveraging advanced features from the BI Tool Set including Slicers, filters, hierarchies, navigation elements, cross report filtering.
• Knowledge/ exp of Agentic AI is a plus.

Soft Skills

• Proven ability to engage with senior business stakeholders, explain technical issues in layman's terms, and influence decision-making.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving data issues.
• Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – to effectively collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior team members.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Agentic AI or other advanced analytics tools is a plus.
• Knowledge of advanced visualization techniques and custom visual creation in Power BI or Tableau is a bonus.
