Job SummaryShanthi Tailors, a leading specialist in Indian classical dance costumes and jewellery, is seeking a passionate and customer-focused Retail Sales Associate for our flagship Mylapore store. The ideal candidate will serve as an ambassador for our brand, providing expert guidance to dancers, parents, and teachers. You will be responsible for driving sales by helping customers find the perfect costumes, temple jewellery, and accessories for their needs.

  • Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Engagement: Greet and welcome customers, providing a warm and professional service.
  • Expert Consultation: Act as a subject matter expert. Listen to customer needs and provide detailed product knowledge on Bharatanatyam costumes, practice sarees, imitation temple jewellery, and various dance accessories.
  • Sales: Assist customers with selections, fittings, and understanding custom order options. Proactively recommend and upsell complementary items (e.g., full jewellery sets, bells, makeup).
  • Operations: Accurately and efficiently process sales transactions using the POS system. Assist with inventory management, including receiving stock, and organizing back-stock.
  • Visual Merchandising: Maintain the visual standards of the store, ensuring costumes and jewellery are displayed attractively and correctly.
  • Client Relationships: Build and maintain lasting relationships with local dance schools, teachers, and regular customers to encourage repeat business.
  • Qualifications & SkillsRequired: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English.
  • Highly Preferred: Proficiency in Tamil is a significant advantage.
  • Highly Preferred: A strong background in or deep knowledge of Indian classical dance (especially Bharatanatyam).
  • Highly Preferred: Familiarity with classical dance costumes, materials, temple jewellery, and accessories.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a retail sales or customer service role is a plus.
  • Personal: Must be proactive, high-energy, and passionate about helping customers.
  • Availability: Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends (as weekends are often peak times for dance-related shopping).
