Job Description:

Location: Pune / Mumbai/ Delhi.

Education : Graduate / Post Graduate

Qualifications in Insurance - will be an added advantage (eg: Fellowship/ Associate/Licentiate of I.I.I.)

 Experience : 2+ years of experience into Marine & Commercial line Underwriting from insurance or Broker co.

CTC : Best in industry

Risk Assessment and UW

  • Implementation and monitoring of various underwriting guidelines related to Commercial products.
  • Main accountability includes Risk analysis, Risk acceptance, Risk selection, Policy coverage (Policy wording, Add-on covers, Exclusions / Inclusions etc.), Renewal business, etc. within the purview of set Underwriting Guideline to achieve the desired business outcomes
  • Maintain TAT and compliance as per UW authority matrix.
  • Reviewing proposals and providing Inputs in terms of local market dynamics, nature of business, quality of risk and recommendations thereof.
  • Strong market intelligence i.e. a broader view of the market we operate in /competitors' details for formulating internal strategies.
  • Work in close coordination with the sales team on the available profitable business opportunities falling with the underwriting guidelines of the company.
  • Review the risk based on the market intelligence and based on the third-party risk inspection reports

Relationship management

  • Interacting with internal stakeholders (Operations, Marketing, Finance, Claims etc.) to meet the smooth proceedings of the business requirements at various stages
  • Develop the key relationship with major clients and Intermediaries along with marketing team to develop long term sustainable business growth

Analytics & MIS Reporting

  • Analyzing the risk and identifying business that can be picked up in declined risk category and seek necessary approvals from seniors/HO for the same

Mandatory Skills:

Risk Assessment and Underwriting


    1. Review technical proposals received from various channels (Multiline/GEO/CBG/BANCA) and IMDs as received from the region allocated basis the existing guidelines / norms
    2. Implementation and monitoring of marine underwriting guidelines
    3. Maintaining TAT within the Region and Referral managements within the region
    4. Evaluate proposal thoroughly considering past claims / cases and assess conformance with the set underwriting guidelines; seek more information on proposals from IMD's,  customers, if required
    5. Conduct 360 degree review of risks along with any associated loss ratio; set standard terms and conditions for the proposal along as per the set norms and guidelines.
    6. Monitor performance and risk associated with various marine products to identify and drive improvement opportunities.
    7. Scrutinize the proposals received and assess adherence to the norms, guidelines and if the premium considered is correct and accounts for associated risk.

Premium Growth & Renewal Retention


    1. Visit the locations/branches and meet IMDs & Clients; understand problem areas and issues / concerns ad provide solutions to overcome business hurdles
    2. Providing support to Retail Channel (Multiline/GEO) sales teams in development of marine business
    3. Tracking and renewal retention
    4. Increase in Market share in allocated states and market penetration in Marine retail business
    5. Grow specific policy business (development of existing IMD's and onboarding new IMD's)
