Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled
PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA)
with proven expertise in designing, implementing, and managing large-scale PostgreSQL environments. The ideal candidate will be hands-on in ensuring
high availability, scalability, performance, and security
of mission-critical databases, while also mentoring junior DBAs and collaborating with engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Architecture & Strategy

  • Design and implement highly available PostgreSQL architectures (replication, clustering, sharding, partitioning).
  • Define database roadmaps, standards, and best practices for enterprise deployments.

Performance & Optimization

  • Lead query optimization, indexing strategies, and capacity planning for large datasets.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance and scalability issues.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching.
  • Ensure robust backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Manage database security, compliance, and auditing.

Automation & Monitoring

  • Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and automation solutions.
  • Develop scripts/tools (Bash, Python, Ansible, etc.) to streamline DBA operations.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with architects and developers to optimize database usage.
  • Mentor and guide junior DBAs and engineers.
  • Provide database expertise during solution design and code reviews.

Support

  • Own production database uptime, incident response, and root cause analysis.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and provide escalation support.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in
    PostgreSQL database administration
    (high availability, clustering, replication).
  • Strong expertise in
    SQL, PL/pgSQL
    , and query optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with
    high availability tools
    (Patroni, Pgpool-II, repmgr).
  • Deep knowledge of
    backup/recovery tools and disaster recovery strategies
    .
  • Experience managing
    large-scale, high-transaction production environments
    .
  • Strong background in
    Linux/Unix systems administration
    .
  • Proficiency in scripting/automation (Bash, Python, Ansible).
  • Exposure to
    cloud-native databases
    (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, GCP Cloud SQL).
  • Solid understanding of
    database security, encryption, and compliance frameworks
    (GDPR, PCI-DSS).

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with
    multi-cloud or hybrid deployments

  • Familiarity with
    containerized databases
    (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to
    NoSQL databases
    (MongoDB, Redis).
  • Knowledge of
    DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
