Role & responsibilities

  1. Compliance & Advisory

Ensure timely and accurate filing of GST returns, reconciliations, and other statutory compliances across multiple states.

Oversee compliance related to Customs, FTP (Foreign Trade Policy), SEZ, and other indirect taxation laws relevant to the steel & mining industry.

Monitor and interpret amendments in indirect tax laws and provide strategic advice to management on implications.

Evaluate and optimize tax structures for various business operations, imports, exports, job work, and supply chain movements.

  1. Litigation & Representation

Lead and manage indirect tax assessments, audits, and inquiries from GST authorities, Customs, and DGFT.

Draft replies to show cause notices, appeals, and other litigation documents.

Represent the company before tax authorities, appellate forums, and liaise with external consultants/counsels for complex matters.

  1. Strategic Planning & Process Improvement

Design and implement robust internal controls, SOPs, and systems for indirect tax compliance.

Work with cross-functional teams (finance, procurement, logistics, operations) to ensure smooth tax processes in business transactions.

Evaluate ERP/GST systems and ensure proper automation, reconciliations, and reporting.

Identify opportunities for tax savings, credits, and efficient cash flow management.

  1. Business Partnering & Advisory

Provide proactive advice on tax impact for contracts, procurement, sales, imports, exports, and capital projects.

Support business expansions, new projects, M&A, and joint ventures from an indirect tax perspective.

Liaise with industry forums, professional bodies, and regulators to represent companys perspective and stay updated on industry best practices.

  1. Leadership & Team Development

Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals to drive excellence in compliance and advisory.

Build tax knowledge and awareness across business functions.

Foster a culture of governance, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile:

Chartered Accountant (CA) with 8–13 years of post-qualification experience in indirect taxation.

Experience in large-scale manufacturing industries, preferably steel, mining, or heavy engineering.

Proven track record in managing multi-location Tax compliances, litigation, and strategic

advisory.

Hands-on experience in handling tax litigation and representation before authorities.

Proficiency in SAP and GST reporting tools.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly regulated industry environment.
