What you'll achieve
As a Software Principal Engineer at Dell Technologies, you will lead the design and development of cutting-edge VDI-thin client software solutions across Linux platforms. You will drive innovation in both software and hardware architectures, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and business outcomes. This role demands deep technical expertise and a proven track record of innovation in AI, GenAI, virtualization, and enterprise software. 

You will:

• Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks using Python and Shell scripting, ensuring comprehensive coverage for system, functional, regression, performance, and security validation.
• Set up, manage, and scale test infrastructure, including automation servers, network setups, virtualized labs (VMware, KVM), and VDI environments (ICA, RDP, Horizon).
• Replicate complex customer environments—covering hardware, OS builds, network configurations, cloud/virtualization setups—to reproduce, analyze, and resolve field issues.
• Perform deep OS-level debugging across Linux kernel and user space, covering threads, IPC, semaphores, system calls, drivers, firmware, BIOS, and system services.
• Validate and troubleshoot networking components including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, routing, VPN, firewalls, and perform packet captures and analysis (tcpdump, Wireshark) and ensure products adhere to security protocols, hardening standards, authentication mechanisms, certificate management, and compliance-driven validation.

Essential Requirements

• 8 - 12 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles and customer issue/escalation handling.
• Expert in Python & Shell scripting and strong knowledge of Linux internals, kernel concepts, signals, threads, memory management.
• Hands-on with infrastructure setup, networking, and test environment management and experience in validating firmware, BIOS, drivers, OS modules.
• Strong debugging using gdb, strace, ltrace, perf, tcpdump, system logs.
• Solid experience with CI/CD, automation frameworks, and security protocols.

Desirable Requirements

• FreeBSD exposure and Cloud & Virtualization experience (AWS, Azure, VMware, KVM).
• Thin Client / VDI domain knowledge and experience with GenAI tools or automated pipelines.
