Roles and Responsibilities of an HSE Engineer

1. Health & Safety Compliance

2. Ensure compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations, codes, and standards.

3. Implement company HSE policies and project-specific safety plans at the site.

4. Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections regularly.

5. Workplace Safety Monitoring

6. Monitor site activities to identify unsafe acts/conditions and ensure corrective actions are taken.

7. Verify that workers use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.

8. Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.

9. Incident & Accident Management

10. Record, investigate, and report accidents, incidents, and near-misses.

11. Recommend preventive and corrective measures to avoid recurrence.

12. Maintain incident/accident statistics and present them to management.

13. Training & Awareness

14. Conduct safety induction training for all new employees, subcontractors, and visitors.

15. Organize toolbox talks, safety drills, and awareness programs regularly.

16. Educate site staff on emergency preparedness and safe work practices.

17. Emergency Preparedness

18. Develop and implement emergency response plans for fire, accidents, and natural disasters.

19. Coordinate mock drills and ensure readiness of firefighting and first-aid equipment.

20. Ensure evacuation routes and emergency exits are always accessible.

21. Environmental Protection

22. Monitor compliance with environmental standards on waste management, water, and air quality.

23. Ensure proper disposal of construction waste and control of site pollution.

24. Promote energy-saving and eco-friendly practices at the workplace.

25. Documentation & Reporting

26. Maintain HSE documentation including permits, safety checklists, and audit reports.

27. Prepare and submit daily/weekly/monthly HSE reports to management and client.

28. Ensure all statutory records and licenses are up to date.

29. Coordination & Support

30. Liaise with project managers, site engineers, and subcontractors for implementing HSE measures.

31. Coordinate with external agencies, regulatory bodies, and clients on safety and environmental issues.
32. Support ISO, OHSAS, and other certification/audit processes.
