We're Hiring: US Mortgage Loan Underwriter at Consultixs

About the Role

As a Mortgage Loan Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating mortgage loan applications to determine creditworthiness and compliance with investor, agency, and company guidelines. You'll analyze risk, review documentation, and ensure accurate decisions that protect both the borrower and lender.

What You'll Do

  • Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, credit reports, income documents, and property appraisals
  • Ensure loans meet regulatory, investor, and company underwriting guidelines (FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional, Non-QM, etc.)
  • Assess borrower risk by evaluating credit, income stability, assets, and collateral
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to loan officers, processors, and management
  • Identify missing or inaccurate information and request additional documentation when needed
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and agency regulations
  • Collaborate with processing and closing teams to ensure smooth loan delivery
  • Stay updated on industry guidelines, policies, and regulatory changes

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Prior experience in mortgage underwriting or mortgage operations (preferred, not required for entry-level roles)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess financial data and identify risks
  • Knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, or USDA guidelines is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing loan files
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines

Bonus (Not Required)

  • DE, LAPP, or SAR certifications
  • Experience with Encompass, Calyx, or other LOS (Loan Origination Systems)
  • Familiarity with compliance regulations such as TRID, RESPA, and HMDA
