Position Overview

We are looking for a Data Engineer to lead the design and implementation of SAP BI universe solutions at Maersk. This role requires extensive experience in building complex data abstractions and mentoring junior developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate on architectural decisions and design of enterprise-level SAP BusinessObjects semantic layer that support both on-premises and cloud-based reporting solutions
• Develop best practices and standards for universe development across the organization
• Implement complex calculations, custom objects, and advanced joins in universes
• Optimize universe performance through proper indexing, aggregate awareness, and query optimization
• Mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews
• Collaborate with data architects to ensure universe designs align with enterprise data strategy
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex universe-related issues
• Gathers the functional requirements for application development/enhancement  
• Coordinates and prioritizes solution delivery with key internal and external stakeholders  
• Contributes to change management, release and testing, performance monitoring, and requirements management SAP Business Objects (SAP BI) in order to provide users globally the best possible service
• Identify, design, and roll-out internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, etc.
• Work closely with internal customers in an agile manner to understand, decompose and scope technical solutions based on best practice designs that meet and exceed expectations 
• Maintaining and optimizing clustered SAP BO infrastructure (WebLogic, Tomcat, Windows/Linux OS).
• Managing connectivity to relational DBs, Dremio, Synapse, and Azure private endpoints.
• Supporting Web Intelligence report development and troubleshooting.
• Preparing for BI 2025 upgrade and AI model integration.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 5-8 years of experience in SAP BI universe development
• Advanced knowledge of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise platform
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL and database optimization
• Extensive experience with both UDT and IDT
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling
• Proven experience in leading technical projects
• Basic understanding of SAP BusinessObjects administration
• Good communication skills.
• Understanding of Software life cycle.
• Exceptional data analysis skills to prepare data for further use or consumption.
• Experience in SAP BO infrastructure administration (servers, clustering).
• Knowledge of JDBC/ODBC connectivity and Oracle client configuration.
• Experience with GIT.
• Familiarity with Azure networking and private endpoints.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams including data engineers, architects, and AI specialists.

Preferred Skills

• Bachelor's / Master's degree in engineering or equivalent
• SAP BI/BusinessObjects certifications
• Experience with SAP HANA optimization
• Knowledge of modern data architecture patterns
• Experience with cloud data platforms and their integration with SAP BI
• Understanding of data governance and security frameworks
• Experience with agile development methodologies
• Experience in the field of enabling connectivity or supporting the integration of applications and processes on machine to machine level as well as end users, e.g. API Management, Robotic Process Automation, Job/Batch Scheduling (using Jenkins), Electronic Data Exchange System, etc.
• Experience in SAP BusinessObjects Administration
• Experience integrating AI-driven analytics or predictive models into BI workflows.
• Understanding of reporting and analytics requirement in the market and ability to compare products for their use cases
• Basic Python programming for automation and AI integration.
• Understanding of infrastructure components and its interaction with SAP BOBJ software.
• Understanding and knowledge of networking layer not just limited to SAP BOBJ software.
• Experience with BI platform upgrades (preferably SAP BI 4.x to BI 2025).
• Knowledge of hybrid architecture (on-prem + cloud integration).
• Experience optimizing SAP BO for large-scale deployments and high-volume data sources.
• Knowledge of data security, governance, and compliance in BI environments.
• Knowledge of SAML, certificate-based authentication, and Azure AD integration for secure access.
