Role Overview

The
Head of Engineering – Water Technologies
will lead Bharat Ecolabs'
engineering and applied sciences team
, driving the
design, development, prototyping, and deployment
of innovative water treatment technologies.

This role demands a strong technical foundation, strategic leadership, and the ability to thrive in an
ambiguous, fast-paced startup environment
with a high degree of ownership and accountability.

Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Team Management

• Lead a cross-disciplinary team of
  engineers and applied scientists
  working on mechanical, chemical, environmental, and biotech aspects of water treatment.
• Build and nurture an engineering culture of innovation, precision, and responsibility.
• Define clear milestones, deliverables, and success metrics across multiple product lines.

2. Product Design & Development

• Oversee the
  design and engineering
  of products across multiple verticals:
• STPs & ETPs
• Atmospheric Water Generators (AWGs)
• Desalination & Membrane Systems
• Translate R&D outputs into market-ready products meeting
  NGT, CPCB, and CPHEEO standards.

3. Project Execution & Deployment

• Oversee full lifecycle: design → prototype → pilot → field deployment → performance monitoring.
• Lead vendor engagement, fabrication supervision, and quality assurance during build and commissioning.
• Develop and enforce
  standardized design and installation SOPs
  for consistent quality across deployments.

4. Technology Innovation & Collaboration

• Collaborate with academic and industrial partners to accelerate
  TRL (Technology Readiness Level)
  advancement from lab to market.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies in
  membrane science, AOP, enzymatic treatment, and resource recovery.
• Contribute to IP generation and technical documentation for grant applications, patents, and publications.

5. Strategic & Organizational Contribution

• Contribute to the company's
  technology roadmap, capital planning, and engineering budgets.
• Support grant proposals, technical due diligence, and partner evaluations.
• Provide engineering leadership during investor presentations, technical audits, and pilot project demonstrations.

Qualifications

• B.Tech / M.Tech / Ph.D.
  in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering (or related field).
• 12–15 years
  of hands-on experience in
  design, development, and commissioning
  of
  STP/ETP, desalination, membrane, or AWG systems.
• Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong command over
  process design, mechanical layout, PLC/automation systems,
  and water quality compliance.
• Exposure to
  startup or innovation-driven environments
  preferred.
• Familiarity with relevant
  IS/BIS/NGT/CPHEEO standards.
