Role Summary

The Engineering Lead – HCM is accountable for leading the engineering strategy, system architecture, technical delivery, and continuous improvement across Human Capital Management systems. This role partners closely with HR, IT, and business leadership to deliver scalable, secure, and user-centric colleague experience solutions. The Engineering Lead will manage and mentor engineering teams, drive modern engineering practices, and ensure the successful execution of HCM product roadmaps.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Leadership & Delivery

Lead end-to-end delivery of HCM systems and modules, including payroll, time, benefits, workforce management, and employee experience platforms.

Architect scalable and reliable HR technology solutions, implementing best practices for security, performance, and compliance.

Drive cloud-first and API-first architecture modernisation initiatives.

Oversee integrations across HR, Finance, Workforce, Retail & Operations systems.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Partner with HR, Talent, Finance, and business units to gather requirements, define system capabilities, and deliver business-aligned solutions.

Work closely with product managers and UX teams to design colleague-centred journeys.

Communicate technical decisions, milestones, and risks to leadership and cross-functional teams.

Team Management

Lead, mentor, and grow engineering teams across multiple systems and platforms.

Establish engineering standards, coding practices, release management, and DevOps processes.

Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence

Monitor system health, performance, and user adoption metrics to identify improvements.

Oversee release planning, change management, and post-implementation support.

Ensure security compliance, data integrity, audit readiness, and incident response coverage.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent.

7+ years of experience in software engineering or HR technology delivery roles.

Proven experience leading teams in HCM / HR / Workforce Technology domains.

Hands-on experience with one or more HCM platforms (Dayforce, SAP SuccessFactors, Workday, Kronos, Oracle HCM, etc.).

Strong understanding of modern system integrations (APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture).

Demonstrated ability to drive digital transformation and process automation initiatives.

Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in retail, enterprise workforce, or distributed workforce environments.

Knowledge of data analytics, reporting, workforce insights, or HR compliance frameworks.

Exposure to Agile methodologies, DevOps pipelines, and continuous delivery models.

Prior experience managing globally distributed engineering teams.
