Core Responsibilities

1. Safety Program Development & Implementation

  • Design and enforce safety policies tailored to STP construction activities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local environmental and safety regulations.
  • Develop site-specific safety plans, including hazard communication and emergency response.

2. Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification

  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
  • Evaluate risks related to confined spaces, heavy machinery, excavation, and chemical handling.
  • Recommend and implement control measures to mitigate identified risks.

3. Training & Education

  • Organize safety induction and job-specific training for all site personnel.
  • Provide training on PPE usage, chemical safety, confined space entry, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain records of all safety training sessions and certifications.

4. Site Inspections & Audits

  • Perform routine and surprise inspections of construction zones, equipment, and work practices.
  • Document findings and ensure timely corrective actions for non-compliance.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety practices and ensure alignment with project safety standards.

5. Incident Investigation & Reporting

  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Identify root causes and recommend preventive measures.
  • Maintain detailed incident reports and communicate findings to management.

6. Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for fire, chemical spills, and confined space rescues.
  • Conduct regular emergency drills and evaluate response effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with local emergency services when necessary.

7. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

  • Stay updated on changes in safety legislation and wastewater industry standards.
  • Ensure all permits, safety data sheets (SDS), and compliance documents are current and accessible.
  • Prepare reports for internal audits and regulatory inspections.

8. Safety Equipment Management

  • Ensure availability and proper maintenance of safety gear and equipment.
  • Monitor inventory and usage of PPE, gas detectors, harnesses, and other safety tools.
  • Train workers on correct usage and storage of safety equipment.

9. Promoting Safety Culture

  • Foster a proactive safety culture through awareness campaigns and toolbox talks.
  • Encourage reporting of unsafe conditions and near misses.
  • Recognize and reward safe behavior among workers.
