Overview The ServiceNow Consultant specializing in CMDB and Discovery plays a crucial role in the effective management of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within the organization. This position is essential for ensuring that the CMDB accurately reflects the real-time status of IT assets, which in turn supports various IT service management processes. The consultant will leverage their expertise in ServiceNow to implement best practices that enhance data integrity and reliability. By managing Discovery processes, the consultant will facilitate insights into the organization's infrastructure, enabling proactive management of assets and services. The role requires a deep understanding of ServiceNow's functionalities, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. With the growing complexity of IT environments, this position is vital for promoting operational efficiency, ensuring compliance, and minimizing risks associated with IT asset management. Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain the CMDB in ServiceNow.
  • Configure and manage the ServiceNow Discovery tool.
  • Perform regular audits of the CMDB to ensure data quality.
  • Develop and execute Discovery strategies for various IT assets.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define and document relationships between configuration items.
  • Provide best practices for CMDB and Discovery to ensure a comprehensive approach.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to data accuracy in the CMDB.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on the use of CMDB and Discovery tools.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation related to CMDB processes and architecture.
  • Work with IT teams to understand their configuration management needs.
  • Support the integration of CMDB with other ITSM processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within Discovery.
  • Analyze data from the CMDB to provide meaningful reports to management.
  • Stay updated on ServiceNow enhancements and industry best practices.
  • Assist in troubleshooting of ServiceNow related queries and issues.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with ServiceNow.
  • Proven experience in managing CMDB and Discovery tools.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL framework and service management processes.
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Strong scripting skills, particularly with JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of database concepts and configuration management practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical thinking.
  • ServiceNow certifications, such as Certified Implementation Specialist, are a plus.
  • Experience with integrations between ServiceNow and third-party tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
