Key Responsibilities:

  • Review inpatient and observation medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes
  • Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with UHDDS, AHA coding clinics, and governmental regulations
  • Apply DRG grouping logic including MS-DRG, APR-DRG, and AP-DRG systems
  • Identify CC (Complication or Comorbidity) and MCC (Major Complication or Comorbidity) diagnoses for DRG optimization
  • Query physicians for documentation clarification when necessary
  • Maintain high coding accuracy (typically 95% or above) and meet productivity and turnaround time targets
  • Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) teams to enhance documentation quality
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs (e.g., CPC, CCS, CIC)
  • Prepare monthly coding reports and follow up on accounts on hold

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Graduate Not Mandatory
  • CPC, CCS, or CIC certification (mandatory)
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Familiarity with hospital billing procedures and healthcare compliance regulations
  • Analytical skills to interpret complex medical records and documentation
