As a Database Administrator (DBA), your primary responsibility will be to manage and maintain the organization's databases. You will be working with a specific focus on MS SQL databases, making knowledge and experience in MS SQL highly desirable for this role. Your role will involve designing, implementing, and optimizing the databases, as well as ensuring their security, availability, and performance.

Role & responsibilities

  1. Database Design and Implementation: Collaborate with the development team to design and create the organization's databases. Define database structures, data types, and relationships based on business requirements.

  2. Database Installation and Configuration: Install and configure Oracle database software on servers and ensure proper setup and connectivity. Configure database parameters for optimal performance.

  3. Database Security: Implement and maintain database security measures to protect sensitive data. Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions to ensure appropriate access controls.

  4. Database Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime. Perform regular backups and test restoration procedures to verify their effectiveness.

  5. Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor database performance regularly and identify opportunities for improvement. Optimize query performance, database configuration, and resource utilization to enhance overall system performance.

  6. Database Maintenance and Upgrades: Apply patches, upgrades, and service packs to the database software as required. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as database reorganization, index rebuilding, and data purging.

  7. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve database-related issues, such as performance bottlenecks, data corruption, and connectivity problems. Work with application developers and system administrators to troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Generate regular reports on database performance, capacity, and availability.

Preferred candidate profile

    • Strong experience as a Database Administrator, on MS SQL databases.
    • In-depth knowledge of MS SQL database architecture, installation, configuration, and administration.
    • Proficiency in database design principles and data modelling.
    • Solid understanding of database security best practices and experience implementing security measures.
    • Experience in database backup and recovery procedures, including point-in-time recovery and disaster recovery.
    • Familiarity with performance monitoring and tuning techniques to optimize database performance.
    • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve database-related issues.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Relevant certifications, Microsoft SQL certification (MCSA), are a plus.

Qualification and Experience Requirements

  1. BCA / MCA or BE. / BTech (IT / CSE) or MSc (CS).
