The Head – Taxation will be responsible for overseeing all direct and indirect tax functions of the company, ensuring compliance with tax laws, managing assessments, and optimizing tax planning for construction and infrastructure projects. This role requires in-depth knowledge of taxation laws applicable to the construction sector and the ability to manage a team and liaise with authorities effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tax Compliance & Management
- Ensure timely compliance with all Direct Tax (Income Tax, TDS, Advance Tax, etc.) and Indirect Tax (GST, Customs, etc.) requirements.
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings, returns, and statements.
- Maintain compliance with tax provisions applicable to construction contracts, joint ventures, subcontracting, and works contracts.
- Tax Planning & Strategy
- Develop and implement effective tax planning strategies to minimize tax liability within legal frameworks.
- Advise management on tax implications of business transactions, new projects, and organizational changes.
- Monitor changes in tax regulations and assess their impact on the business.
- Litigation & Assessments
- Represent the company before tax authorities, appellate bodies, and external auditors.
- Manage and resolve tax assessments, audits, and litigation matters efficiently.
- Prepare necessary documentation, responses, and reconciliations for tax authorities.
- Internal Controls & Processes
- Establish robust tax systems and processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Work closely with finance, procurement, contracts, and project teams to ensure tax efficiency in business operations.
- Conduct regular training for finance and project staff on tax-related matters.
- Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with external consultants, auditors, and legal advisors for complex tax issues.
- Provide timely updates and reports to senior management on tax exposures, risks, and strategies.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of Direct Tax, GST, and other indirect taxes relevant to construction/infrastructure.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent knowledge of tax litigation, assessment procedures, and appellate processes.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, MS Excel, and tax software.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent professional qualification (mandatory).
- 12–20 years of taxation experience with at least 5+ years in a senior taxation role.
- Experience in the construction / infrastructure industry is highly preferred.
