Job Summary:

This job acts as a project leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers, determining technical tasks, and improving existing structures and processes. It involves making technical decisions, collaborating with management to set standards, and representing the company to external partners.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system
  • Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow
  • Actions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives
  • Proactively improves existing structures & processes
  • Exercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems
  • Notices patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions
  • Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor
  • Trusted to represent PayPal, Inc to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualification:

A hands-on technical leader responsible for architecting, implementing, and scaling next-generation payment experiences for PayPal's Growth markets. The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of iOS expertise with distinguished accomplishments in building complex financial applications and a proven track record of technical innovation. You'll define the technical strategy for iOS architecture, establish engineering standards, and drive system-level decisions that balance security, performance, and user experience excellence.

Beyond exceptional mastery of Swift, UIKit/SwiftUI, and iOS platform capabilities, you'll pioneer sophisticated solutions for complex payment flows, mentor engineering teams, and act as the technical authority on iOS best practices. As a key individual contributor, you'll collaborate strategically with cross-functional leadership while serving as the bridge between business objectives and technical implementation.

As a Staff iOS Software Engineer, you will:

  • Architect transformative payment experiences that set industry standards for security, performance, and user experience
  • Lead critical iOS initiatives from conception to delivery while mentoring engineering teams
  • Partner with executive leadership to influence product roadmaps and technical strategy across growth markets
  • Establish iOS architecture patterns, coding standards, and quality frameworks that elevate the entire mobile organization
  • Drive innovation through technical spikes, prototypes, and proof-of-concepts for emerging payment solutions
  • Champion complex refactoring initiatives that improve maintainability and engineering velocity
  • Identify and resolve systemic technical challenges that impact multiple teams or projects
  • Serve as a technical authority in cross-functional planning and design reviews

What you need to bring:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 8+ years of professional iOS development experience, with significant contributions to large-scale applications
  • Exceptional expertise in Swift, with deep understanding of iOS internals, memory management, and performance optimization
  • Proven track record architecting complex iOS applications with multiple feature teams
  • Experience implementing secure payment flows, biometric authentication, and financial data handling
  • Advanced knowledge of UI/UX best practices, accessibility, and internationalization
  • Strong background in test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and release management for iOS applications
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions across organizational boundaries
  • Outstanding communication skills with experience translating complex technical concepts for diverse audiences

Educational Qualifications: BSCS or equivalent + 8 years of experience / MSCS + 6 years of experience in software development
